Ok, this is strange.

I have a wireless router (ASUS WL-520g), which works fine, but there are some issues about download speeds that doesnīt seem logical to me. It was the same with another router I had, so itīs not that.

An example (there are many others websites like this):

1. Imagine website 1 and website 2, both have the same large file (over 100MB) available for download.

2. I connect my laptop using a cable and get about 220KB/sec download speed, both for website 1 and website 2.

3. I then connect my laptop using wireless, and now it becomes strange:

Website 1 gives me about 206KB/sec (a little lower than cable, but perfectly understandable).

But:

Website 2 gives me only about 80KB/sec (why is the wireless so much slower?).

I donīt get it ? Any thoughts about this ?

How weird - some odd latency somehow, does it vary with time of day, etc? Or perhaps the route to site 2 is already running close to tolelrence, and the wireless is causing just enough extra delay to start dropping packets?

Most odd

I have no idea about the technical aspects to this, but it does not vary from time to time, these numbers are quite stable.

Itīs very strange.

does seem a bit strange, any chance you could email me the websites in question so that I can take a look from my connection, I have both a 20Mb Cable and a 12Mb ADSL line here with hard wired and wireless connections

I will Huw, from another forum I got this explanation:

"Packetloss. On a direct cable connection you have a lot more bandwidth to be able to recover from packet loss if it occurs. You don't have that on wireless."

mmm, I'm not convinced of that explanation, I would expect most of your packetloss to occur on the WAN side of your router not the LAN side and if it is occuring on the LAN side then you would expect both sites to be a lot slower not just one of them.
