Hello all,

I've been coming here for over a year now reading and learning but this is my first post, registered yesterday actually. Anyways I'm not extremely literate in all forms of computers but I like to learn as most here do.

This is my first of I'm sure many future questions which I can't seem to find an answer for here. I have searched it and come close but I don't think they pertain.

To my knowledge my forum does not have an issue with members having to login all the time. But I personally have an issue whenever I enter the admin section I usually have to re-enter my username and password after every change.

Likewise if I go to edit a members profile or move a topic to another category.

Any suggestions?

My forum is at www.105thsts.com/forums

Thank you,

Warlock

Just off of what you've said so far it sounds like you may be having some issues with the server variables...

This topic might be a good place to start - http://forum.snitz.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=62274

Anon,

Thanks but no luck. I reviewed that post already and the Web Gardens was already set to 1.

Can you think of what else may cause it?

You might check that your browser allows cookies, and that your webserver has not disabled asp sessions.

I'm quite possibly way off the mark but it's worth pointing out both editing member profiles and accessing the admin area require a second login by the admin anyway.

Doug,

Yes on the first but I'm not sure exactly how to check on the second. I believe I figured it out correctly and determined that they are enabled with a 20 min session timeout. This was done by checking the IIS Home directory for my website through configuration and options, correct? Enable buffering is also checked but parent paths is not.

To check IIS setting for session support, open the IIS MMC, navigate to the website in question, open the properties page, open the web application configuration, and look on the Options tab (IIS 5.1)

Doug,

Thanks, I looked again and that's exactly where I'm checking so it is enabled. After further review though I believe that logging into the admin option section isn't what was making me crazy. I can login to the admin options section and remain logged in for a while moving back and forth around the admin options and forum.

What does drive me nuts is kind of what Jezmeister alluded to. Updating and deleting members since all of a sudden people have found out about our forums and I'm getting a fair amount of unwanted traffic (spam - but I'm in the process of moding it now to take care of that). By checking and deleting though I have to login as admin to see the members profile just to make sure it's a bot then do it again to delete the thing. Now obviously I wouldn't want to delete the wrong member so having a fail safe is prefered I guess.

In addition to this I have quite a few members who are prolific at posting and to try and keep the forums clean yet accesible we close the post then move it into an archived section. This requires the admin to enter the pw everytime and for only one post at a time. Is there a way around this and be able to mass select and move posts?

Thanks,

War

Shameless promotion, I put together a big list of tips on fighting spam if you're looking for some consolodated advice. I didn't add any type of CAPTCHAs, but I did just about everything else and the Hope Fellowship website has gone from 60 spammer registration attempts a day to 0.

If I'm understanding you right, those checks are supposed to be there. That is a kind of "Are you sure?" check to make sure you are an Admin, and that you didn't accidentally click on the wrong one.

LOL, 'Shameless promotion', I've already seen it and read through it twice. That's part of the 'mods' I was refering to in an earlier post. Nice thread and a great help !

Regarding the checks, it seems they are supposed to be thier. I do wish there was a way to mass close and move threads though.

Thanks,

War
