Hi:

I am not sure what is happening since I cannot duplicate this problem, but I have people trying to register and get an error message that they have not entered the month and day of their birth.

Somehow, they seem to be able to enter the year without the month automatically appearing as it is suppose to.

When they contact me I tell them to reset the year to something else, then set it again to their birthyear and the Month field should automatically appear. I guess this is working.

Anyone experience this or now what this is happening what that when entering the year the month does not appear as it should?

I thought maybe it was a browser incompatibility or something, but I do not know what browsers are being used. I use IE 7 and Firefox and this does not happen in either of those.

Any ideas?

Using 3.4.06 with Requiredfields mod.

Just wondering if it's a dateformat kinda problem - you know how the Americans use MM/DD/YYYY and the rest of us use DD/MM/YYYY - does it happen with a date of March 3rd (always 3/3)? How about Feb 28th (either 28/2 or 2/28, where 28 is bigger than the highest month number (December = 12))?

Just a random thought

Shouldn't be, the individual parts of the birthdate are pulled in individually to construct the string in the format yyyymmdd.

By linkage I presume you mean a link to the registration page?

http://www.saint-mike.org/bbs/register.asp

It works like it is suppose to for me, so I do not know why this is a problem for people, but I am getting a significant number of people trying to register who are reporting this problem.

Ah-ha. Think I have it, but you'll need to confirm with those encountering the problem that this is how they encounter it.

01. Fill out the registration form, but leave one of the required fields blank (not the DOB).

02. Submit the form and you'll get an error message, as expected.

03. Go back to the form and the page reloads, hiding the month & day fields, but leaving the year selected. As the vistor already entered those first time 'round, they don't bother checking them, hence the error.

I'll see if I can come up with some sort of "fix" for this on Monday, when I have the files I need with me, but my first impression is that there is no "fix".

Hi:

That sounds like a plausible explanation. I'll ask about it with some of the people reporting this problem.

Thanks

One of the people who reported this problem said that only the YEAR field appeared the first time around.

So this apparently is not just having to redo the birthdate setting upon error.

Doesn't this suggest a possible glitch with the browser perhaps? not bringing up the month field when the year field has been set?

That is possible I suppose, do you know what browser they were using ?

Strange, though, that the month field appears when they select a second year. If their browser was choking on the javascript, I'd expect it to do so consistently, not changing the visibility of the month field, at all, no matter how many times they changed the year.

Ya, I know. I don't understand it.

Though you know how accurate the public reports problems it may really be one of another error and they having to re-enter the month and day as you suggested.

I can at least change the error message for the Birthdate to give instructions on what they need to do -- presuming anyone reads the error message -- so they won't email me.
