1. Just need to find out if I can simply replace all the asp pages instead of doing a complete install. Have there been database changes since 3.4.02?
I am taking our forum over from an previous webmaster and although the version says 3.4.02, I believe they have just copied newer version asp files over the 3.4.02 that were initially installed. I can tell that the database has not been touched except that is has been upgraded to sql server 2005 when website servers were updated.
As far as I can see there are no mods installed.
2. We are getting hit by spam that looks like its been generated by robots answering ever single post. If I remove the offending member, the posts still remain under the username n/a. Is there a way of removing all this garbage easily rather than deleting each one manually ? Will the upgrade to the latest version have better ways of removing these?
Well first off if you have no mods at all installed then it should be a fairly simple upgrade. There have been very many posts about upgrading if you do a search for them you will turn up all the info you will need
As for the spam there are some features that you can try in the forum but the best would to be to use a couple mods out there. There are spam and captcha mods as well as requried field mods when someone signs up to keep them from signing up. Do a search for spam or captcha and you will find thousands of posts regarding that as well.
Good luck and if you run into trouble I am sure you will get the help you need
A simple dbs script will take care of that. Rui posted one recently in this forums; a quick search should unearth it.
