I have a garden-based website and the latest forum version and need posters to upload images in their posts which I've been trying to do off and on for 4 months thus far without success and I'm at my wits end. I've tried SEARCH and that appears to confuse further. I've tried Mike's 5 in 1 file attachment without success. I have recently tried Proeder's file attachment without success. Although new topic pages now show 'insert DWF' and 'insert idrop' icons (almost) -you'll see what I mean if you check out my forum via my website shown on my profile.

If anyone can help get me sorted I would really appreciate it.

I've got green fingers, but I'm all thumbs using a keyboard!

Go to snitzbitz.com and download the "5-in-1 Snitz Common Expansion Pack"
The files are prepared with the mods already installed.
The only file changes you need to make are to your config.asp file.

You don't have to install all five mods, but you'll have to include the Site Integration mod when you do it.
Just do it. . .its very easy.

Been there done that, still no result. Indeed, Ian Seabrook (TOPIC_ID=64492)had exactly the same problem and was advised to go the proeder route because it allows images in the actual post. You will also note that I posted a follow up to the topic enquiring if Ian was successful and I'll be interested to hear his (or anybody else's) response. My problem and request for help remains.

why insert dwf and insert idrop?
that isn't proeder mod, have you made all changes required?
Proedere is a grat mod and it let you upload and show images in post, you need to download the latest version and see in this forum discussion about it..

Interesting, only I just noticed these two icons among the editing buttons and assumed they were part of the mod. As you can see, they are not properly visible, but they exist. What do they do? Could they be removed without causing additional problems?

I read that post you describe which includes many related problems and how some people overcame for their particular use, but I could not see the wood for the trees. Certainly with 26 posts it is not easy for a lay man like me to follow.

Another problem. I loaded the 5 in 1 and subsequently returned the edited sections after it did not work, but in the MOD set up section of the admin options the Site Integration Mod V1.0 still shows. This introduced the question of 'Delete the dbs file when finished?' which I do not know anything about. SO I leave it alone.

How can I be sure that after all my ill-fated attempts to load an image loading MOD that my forum contains no leftover MOD traces which Proeder requires.
Is there a straightforward method of returning to the original forum like a reset or would this remove all the posts and members too?

if you haven't mod installed you can reload original files from snitz zip, there are tre tables installed from proeder but you can left them on, they arren't used or called. Or you can remove them from your db.

But if you try to install again proeder, we can give you help.

That icons I don't know where they come from...

The DWF and IDrop are most likely autocad related. Not sure how they got there, but DWF is an autocad format and IDrop is an autocad function that allows you to insert autocad images in a document.

The best way to remove any mod is to restore from your backups that you made prior to working with the mod. That way you don't have to reconfigure or reinstall any other MODs that were already working.

Is your forum using a MySql database?
Proeder's file attachment is set up for that type of database - I'm not sure how or if it works with Access.
That's very important to know!

If you're using an Access database then there is a danger of wiping out your forum topics and posts if you make the mistake of uploading the .db file that comes with Snitz.

What database is the forum set up for?

Yes, but the 5-in-1 mod comes with Proeder files modified for MySql - not modified for Access.

I mean original mod and changes aren't for access but for the effective working. I haven't look 5 in 1 because i have already adapted all that mods to work well in all db, but you can say that modification are required in original mod, don't you?

Yes. The original Proder's File Attachment required some modification to work properly with MySql database.
I'm not sure if it worked with Access okay, or not.

Panhandler asked: What database is the forum set up for?

My web site runs on SQL, but I do not know for certain about the forum db as I did not install it. How would I find out?

It seems my forum is in something of a mess as a result of loading various MODs and none of them working. I now realise this is very likely due to mod leftovers remaining on the files. I can recall trying with the site integration mod, Mikes mod and MIke's 5in 1 mod and now proeders. Maybe one of these installed the idrop/dwp icons and I did not appreciate it at the time, I certainly didn't.

I have reached the point of absolute frustration with Snitz where a new download of Snitz forums might even be the easiest and quickest.

Which snitz folder holds the set up details which I could use to establish a new snitz2 forum?

Then once the basic snitz2 is working on my server I could focus on getting proeders to work on the bare forum first, (DB type permitting of course). Then reload the forum topics.

Are the posts held in a separate and recoverable folder?

Just looked at my config_file and located the following code
'strDBType = "sqlserver"
strDBType = "access"
'strDBType = "mysql"
I believe this means my forum is using an access db.

In which case, according to Panhandler, I run the risk of losing my forum topics and posts.

If this is so, I'm right back at square one where I was four months ago. (14 Jan - first post) So, assuming I have an access db, which is the best MOD to modify my forum so that forum members can upload images in their posts? (without having their images posted elsewhere on the net beforehand and merely creating a link from their photo site to my forum).

I have taken my forum back to square one today and loaded Mikes File Attachment Mod.
Progress is being made on the image upload front, but not there yet. I do feel like Robert the Bruce and his spider . . . . . .
I'll get there with your help

muddywellies,

I thought the reason you gave up on Mike's was that it did not allow you to have the images displayed in the posts. I am sure the code can be modified to allow this, but Proeder's does this by default.

My installation is running Proeder's with an access back end with no issues.
