Hello! I am using snitz v 3.405. My forum is private. A member just notified me that they can read the topics without logging in. The only way this can happen is if they close the browser instead of using the logout button. When they open the site the next time they will be logged in without using the login name and password. My question is there anything available to correct this. In other words, if the browser is closed without using the "logout" button, is it possible to make this as good as logout?
Thanks |

Yes; tell them not to check "Save Password" when logging in.

Search is your friend “I was having a mildly paranoid day, mostly due to the fact that the mad priest lady from over the river had taken to nailing weasels to my front door again.” |

Thanks Shaggy for the quick response! Is there a way to get rid of "save password" altogether? |

But what if they want that option? For example: I'm the only person in my house, so why hassle with entering my password all the time?
For the record though, it can be done. If memory serves, someone may have already worked out the code.... I do remember a similar discussion ages ago so you may want to start with the archives. |

Well this is the price they should pay. There is always a chance that someone using a public computer and not remembering to uncheck "save password" and just close the browser. |

No, that is the price they should pay - you should never make things more inconvenient for those who can follow instructions to accommodate the minority who can't. If you want to do something about this then simply have that checkbox unchecked by default.

I have to agree with Shaggy - If you're too stupid to log yourself out of a public computer you deserve what you get. Plus, the really important stuff (like viewing a profile or accessing Moderator/Admin functions, etc.) still ask again for the credentials.
But I've said this before, and this discussion has happened before... and will probably continue until the end of time. |

Ok, I agree with you, but I am really more concerned about the forum being read by someone who is not registered. So, do I make it unchecked by default?
Never mind I found it one of the topics. Thanks |

Another thought - would changing the session timeout help? I mean if they're revisiting the site within 20 mins (the default) their session will be cached, so they'll come straight in - setting a lower timeout would reduce the risk (but may have side-effects)
discuss... |

Yeah, like lowering the time you have to do any admin-realted stuff without getting bothered for a password... |
