hi there, my apologies in advance for my lack of knowledge in this subject, but im guessing that thats what these forums are for, this is my current situation and what i am hoping to do...
I currently have a snitz forum with approx 2000 members, and i would like to send the 'occasional' email to the members using the 'email all users' feature, but my company that hosts my site has said that if i do, they will suspend my account... so... i have decided to setup my own mail server on my corporate DSL line but i could do with both help in choosing a mail server (in fairness to the forum, i will seek help elseware on this, although any comments and suggestions are more than welcome) and also i will need help in setting up the details on the forum admin section.
So, firstly, can this be done? If so, what problems might I run into?
if it can't be done, what options would you recommend (apart from changing hosting company!)
Many thanks in advance. |

If you have a Windows Server, then it has an option to install an SMTP server within IIS. Very simple, but effective for this small job. 2,000 emails is small. We send 25-50 thousand a week for a client. |

hi, many thanks so far for this info, i think i'll use the iis one, will be simpler... please again excuse my ignorance on this, but would I be able to do this using my static IP number? or will i need to point a domain name to the mail server?
Also, after doing this, what info would I enter into the forum email admin section?
if anyone could really clarify that issue i'll continue my search on setting up a mail server on iis...
many thanks again for your responses |
