Several years ago a friend installed a forum for my business at www.enneagram.net. We are now getting tons of spam posts.
1. Can I stop this spam? Some kind of approval before the person can post?
2. The forum gives a message that I can't delete a member or post because I am not the admin...however, I have logged in with what I thought was the admin log in and it shows me as the admin. What is the problem?
How do I log in as the admin to delete members and spam posts?
1. Yes. In Admin Options-> Email Server Configuration, turn Email Validation and Restrict Registration to On.
2. You should not have that problem. Maybe a mistake typing the admin password? Anyway, it's better to lock them than delete them, like that they won't register again with the same username.
Yes, you can have moderator and admin logins. Not sure whether that is the case then. If you see the trash icon for members then likely you're an admin.
Both the email validation and restrict registration configurations are set to on, but we still have spammers posting! Is there a way to require moderator approval of new members before they can post? Any other suggestions to keep the spam at bay?
See the AntiSpam Registration Mod http://www.snitzbitz.com/mods/details.asp?Version=All&mid=139 I have just installed and hey presto! Another Anti-Spam extra to add, would be Shaggy's Birthdate Require mod, See http://forum.snitz.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=63786 The small piece of code ensures all new registrations have to manually select your birthdate via three pull-down option boxes. Weve done it and its a great 'Shaggy Masterpiece'. They do work well!
