I have been holding off upgrading for some time as I had made a number of mods to my forum. I'm thinking now is probably the best time to make that jump. I'm at versin 3.4.03 and am interested in 3.4.06.

I have been applying the security patches, but nothing else. What is the recommended course of action. I know that I'll obviously have to recreate my modifications, but aside from that, can I upgrade from 3.4.03 directly to 3.4.06? Or do I have to do a series of steps? My main concern would be preservation of the data.

Any thoughts / advice would be greatly appreciated.

BTW, I've been using Snitz for over 5yrs now for my own forums and think that it is fantastic. I have had clients who have insisted on going with paid PHP forums who have had nothing but problems - with security and otherwise. Kudos to the Snitz team for creating such a reliable product!!!!

If what you want is just to preserve your existing data, just change the config.asp file of the new version code to point to your existing database and run setup.asp. The forum will be upgraded without any trouble.

You will lose the mod's code you added, but you can simply add it again.

Forgive my ignorance...

I am also attempting and upgrade and would like to be able to follow the somewhat simple instructions to do so. As it stands, I am completely new to the forums and database arena (I have informally inherited a site). When you say make a copy of the database, what exactly do you mean? Where can I find it? I know for certain that I have a MySQL db as that's what I was told, but I can't seem to find it...any help would be more than I know at this point.

No need to copy the database. Just follow the instructions in the readme file regarding upgrades.
