My forum has been hacked. I'm getting spammed and all my user accounts have been changed? Is there a way to fix this? My forum is www.MountainNature.com/forum. I'm not sure how to tell what version I have since my admin priviledges and logins don't seem to work. |

In addition. I'm having a lot of problems with spammers getting into the forum, I'm guessing they are the ones that hacked it. |

Can you still log in using FTP for instance ? If so, log in, download the database and delete it for now. Also, download all the logfiles you can. |

your forum version is 3.4.03, you can tell this without logging in, simply by hovering over the powered by logo in the bottom corner of the browser. There have been numerous security updates since 3.4.03 was released, you should follow MarcelG's advice while you update the files, and remove all bogus admins and set up a new admin account on a local test site before re-instating your forum |

Thanks all. I CAN get the database file by opening the website in FrontPage. Where are the log files? It's odd. Even though I've edited the database to restore my username and password, it continually refuses any attempt to login. It tells me that my username and password were incorrect.
Is there any way to salvage my existing database postings? How do I go about upgrading to the most current version? |

OK. I've taken the forum down and downloaded the most current version of Snitz. Is there any way to import just the forum descriptions and color schemes from my old database? I'm guessing that all the data is now toast? |

There should be step by step instructions that came with the 3.4.06 download on how to upgrade to it from older versions.
I have not converted from an old version since I started using 3.4.06 but I believe thats all you have to do. Also this has been convered many times so if you do a search I am sure you will find oyur answer |

Upgradeing is easy just follow the readme as said befor, how ever you will have to install any mods u may of added like avatar, PM's etc etc
Firstly just install 3.4.06 on a test area, set config to your test database (copy of the original, never the original DB) and run setup.asp.
Then play and once happy try to get things back up.
The reason password not working that it's hashed, so entering it into the database will not work. the only way to do it register a new user with the password u want, the copy that hashed password and past into your password and it will work. I must admit i've not dont it but it should.
As for ur data being toast, it depends on what the fools have done!!!! if your post data is still there then you should be able to save it unless they have deleated it. Do make any back up's? I try to back mine up each month (should be weekly but do not put the effert to do myself)
