Hey Team,
On this new forum I am helping set-up it was working great the earlier part of today and now we have to scoll right to left to see the whole forum. There is a scroll bar on the bottom that was not there ealier. We are building it in 800 X 600 too and the settings have been done in 800 X 600 in the catagories and the Topic Left Column Width: is 100 and Topic Right Column Width: is 100%. Any ideas what could have caused the table to shift and now require a scroll bar at the bottom of the thread to see the whole forum?
Thanks. |

Sure. If the message posted does not contain a break or space, it will push the width of the page to the right.
Demonstrate: scroooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooool
Or if you use the

tags to dispay code, it will also push the page far to the right if there is no line break in the code. |

Anytime anyone posts one of those long URLs it causes forum scrolling. Either they need to learn to post inline, or use a URL shortening service like TinyURL.
There's a mod somewhere to abbreviate URLs, but last I looked it was a monstrous undertaking.

A link to a page this is happening on would help us help you rather than us just throwing different possibilities at you.

Search is your friend “I was having a mildly paranoid day, mostly due to the fact that the mad priest lady from over the river had taken to nailing weasels to my front door again.” |

You were all right it was the topic catagory that had a very long link in it. Thanks. Below in my signature link is the forum I have been working on and it is almost complete. I am trying now to see if anyone has the PM (private Message)mod files already changed as there seems to be over 50 changes to be made there "YIKES"!
Thanks,

not everyone has view signatures turned on (me being one), so it is better to provide your link in the post |

I wouldn't install PM on a forum like that. Remember, users can still email each other; that only takes a few seconds more, and comes with none of the security hassles of PMs. |

Ok... I appreciate the input. I think I was under the impression that the only way one could contact the whole membership within the forum as admin was to install this. Do you know how to notify the whole group as admin for updates?
Thanks,

Email might not work very well either, as many users will never see it. I always just post announcements. Sticky it for a while if you must. |
