I'm currently using an access database but often get a database in use when using the forum. We have a lot of memebers and I think we have out grown access.

My main question is is their a limit to how big the access database should be, mine is about 8mb at the moment.

Also would somebody like to do the transfer from access to SQL for me if I paid them and how? can you email me on jonathan.kettle@gmail.com if you are intrested.

Link to the fourm is here www.elvethamheathfourm.info

8 MB is very small. That won't mean that Access can handle all the simultaneous users your forum has, if it has many simultaneous users.
Forum performance should be the key indicator for the move, not database size.

Thanks for the advise

we have anything from 5 to 35 people on at any one time

This is the most common error I get

Microsoft JET Database Engine error '80004005'

Could not use ''; file already in use.

Yep, that error won't certainly occur once you upgrade.

At the same time, 5-35 users shouldn't really have that impact. When my forum was on Access it could handle a lot more than that.

I moved away from Access when my database was close to 200Mb but you have to balance the database size against the concurrent user count against what else is running on the server (you have no control over this last bit).

Moving to SQLServer or mySQL will help solve your problems.

Access still holding out for me on the following stats. DB size around 25mb. I've never seen or had reports of that error.

I've found my new host and planning a conversion around November / December. Let us know how easy/hard the conversion was. I'm concerned about the mods I have installed causing problems
