That's the advice my host is giving me.
Currently the Access Database is 90+MBs and
with a heavily visited forum and the blog app
I built my host is not really happy with me.

I know host discussions are not allowed, but I
do feel I should name the host, simply since
Godaddy has some limitations when it comes to
MS SQL.

So, anybody has any experience with converting
Access to MS SQL through CSV?

Also, are there any things I need to keep in the
back of my mind about this?

Greets & thanks,

Dominic

I'm not sure what it is you're trying to do. You do not need to export an MS Access database to CSV to import it to MS SQL.

Yeah, I read something about remotely converting the current access database, but
my host doesn't support that, so this is the supported method they adviced me.

Greets & thanks,

Dominic

Get yourself a local sql server of the same version as your host. Stop your forum. Download the Access mdb. Convert it to sql server locally. When you're satisfied with the conversion, use DTS to transfer the mssql database to the host mssql server. Edit your forum config.asp to point to the mssql db. Restart your forum.

If I know something about GoDaddy, I'd be surprised if GoDaddy allowed external access to their SQL Server DBs. They don't do it with their MySQL Dbs, AFAIK.

I guess I just couldn't imagine using a host that didn't allow me access to my database :)

Not really an option, cause aside for this thing I am satisfied with what their offering me
and with the traffic illhill gets I need the gbs they give me as far as traffic and storing and
switching can mean a site being down for a week or so, so not looking forward to that.
(But that would become a host discussion, so I end it at that).
Anybody has any experience with it and with the different tables the snitz db uses is there a
way to do it through CSV?

Greets & thanks,

D

Anybody did anything through CSV yet?
Or found a solution that doesn't involve external access to the DB?

(this is still bugging me like crazy and due to a lack of any experience
with MSSQL I have a hard time visualizing any suggestions made).

Greets & Thanks,

D
