hello folks. My forum is down after moving to another server and I know that it is file permissions that are not set properly. Good news is that I have a Web Admin that will allow me to set these permissions myself. Here's the error I'm getting

Microsoft JET Database Engine error '80004005'

Operation must use an updateable query.

/forum/inc_func_common.asp, line 576

Do I set permissions in this backend to "/forum" or to the exact path to the .mdb file? I'm a little confused since I've always called the other host but need to get this done correctly myself.

Also it gives me options for the 'anonymous' user. Should I have that set to allow Browse, Read AND Write? Some of them? All options?

Thanks in advance

You need to assign read / write permissions to the anonymous internet user, for the database file and folder.

If you will read my post a bit slower I already understand....

I set permissions to "/forum" but it does not work

Should I be setting it to "/forum/xxxxxxxxx.mdb" ????

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance

He did tell you what you asked - set it for both the file and folder.

I went into this admin area and attempted to set these permissions to

'/forum/xxxxxx.mdb'

The server generated and error message for me as I tried to save the settings

System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapException: Server was unable to process request. ---> Wahp.Core.ExceptionHandling.BaseException: Folder '\\shared.hosting.local\nfs\cust\8\95\78\687598\web\web\forum\xxxxxxxxx.mdb' does not exist for account 687598 at Wahp.Administration.DirectoryPermission.SetPermission(String account, String path, Boolean authAnonymous, Boolean accessRead, Boolean accessWrite, Boolean enableDirBrowsing) in \\shared.hosting.local\nfs\webservices\Wahp.Administration\App_Code\DirectoryPermission.cs:line 49 --- End of inner exception stack trace ---

I guess this means that I just need to call my host?

I would recommend that you do, yes.

Hi Catapult - were you ever able to resolve this?
I have the exact same error.
It occured when Godaddy suggested I switch from ASP to CGI (linux) to do some password protecting tricks). It got corrupted because apparently Snitz won't work with Linux. Switched back to ASP and same error. I also use Frontpage extensions, which muddy the waters, I am sure.
I will gladly hire anyone out there who can bail me out of this mess.
Just name your price!

I don't think anyone can do anything but the host. Seems like a server issue and that needs to be addressed by the host.
