Sorry if I'm in the wrong place.
I used to have Snitz running on my old server which was Win2k SP4 and it worked like a charm - no problems. Then the server was replaced and now runs Winxp Pro Sp1 Thinking I could take a short cut I just copied the forum folder across but that did not work at all and no-one could logon. I then reinstalled Snitz from scratch but could not even get off the ground as I continiously get the following errors. http://www.proasm.com/images/szerror.jpg Regardless of what I do, I get this error. Thinking maybe SP2 is needed, I install SP2, same problem. I un-installed IIS and all of its components, delete all Inetpub folders and reinstall etc, but still this problem occurs. My next step is to reformat the drive and start again but before I do that maybe someone has already been here and found a solution. Anyone one have any ideas.

That's a permissions problem. Try a search for 'updateable query'. It's a very common problem.
You should be aware that Win XP will allow at most 10 simultaneous connections to your server. |

OK, if you did a search (if not found, then click the Archive tick box) then you would know that you need to allow the IUSR_<COMPUTER NAME> user account to have have write access to the folder that you store the MS Access database in. Simply right click on the folder that you Access database is in and go to the security tab and add the IUSR_<COMPUTER NAME> user account to be able to write.
I would also advise you against using XP pro for hosting your website as it only allows a maximum of 10 concurrent users at a time to see your site. I hope that helps. |

Sorry been away, but thanks for the inputs. I'll siv my way thru the many topics I found in the search. Regarding access, there are no other users to the computer/OS, just me. And regarding Xp and its 10 users, yes its been taken care of. The choice of Xp is not mine and if it was, Xp would have been in the trashcan long ago :)

You still need to give the proper permissions for it to work.
And running a server on XP is just plain wrong. |

When I was using Win2k there were no permissions set, but anyways, after giving every type of permission I could find, I could now set it up via localhost no problem but not the internet or network, then once setup and when I logged on from the internet, I can type in my Username and Password and although it accepted my login, it actually does not log me in. So for this to work it seems, I have no choice but to reformat and install everthing from scratch Some error must have crept in when I originally copied the forum folders over from the w2k machine.

You do not need to delete everything because of the login problem. Check the forum URL. After that, delete your cookies, close all browser windows and try to login again. |
