Are there any mods available that change the way subscriptions work? Let me use Microsoft Sharepoint Discussions as an example - with Sharepoint you can configure alerts (subscriptions) to be received immediately upon posting, or as a daily or weekly summary. Alerts can also be configured to go out only on added, changed or deleted items.

Snitz, out of the box, only appears to allow you to receive an email notification every time a post occurs in a category, forum or topic to which you're subscribed. With a chatty forum, the emails could potentially get out of control. I could probably have them set up a rule to forward the emails to another area, but that defeats the purpose of the subscription alerts.

I need to convince the powers that be that Snitz is an infinitely better choice than Sharepoint discussions, and this is one of their sticking points, although I'm not sure why.

That's the way subscriptions work, with the default code. Someone may have developed a mod to do something similar, but I'm not sure. Try a search in the mod W/Code section. Search the archive as well.

I've been checking around, no dice. :(

Still hoping there's something out there. My users are complaining that they get too many subscription notification emails, and they're asking if I can change that to a one-a-day summary, or to only receive an email for a new topic, and not the replies.

Picky, picky.

Have you checked out this MOD? It's the Email Once For Topic Subscriptions MOD. Here is what the description says about it:

This mod is designed for administrators with large user database fields and wishing to use topic subscriptions but don't want massive emailing with each post to topic. This mini mod prevents forum to send emails with each reply to same subscriber over and over if user did not logged in since last subscription email for the topic-in-question is sent. After user has logged in and timer naturally resets and new emails are sent if new replies has been posted therefore preventing massive emails for users who have posted once to topic and never rechecked replies.

Ya I tried that mod and it's really not finished. I can't remember the specifics, but it just doesn't work quite right at all.
Better to use Active Topics, which mostly obviates the need for daily/weekly digests.
