Is there any way to check if your Access database is available? Whenever I am uploading it after making some changes I get a generic ASP Error message--Not very descriptive to the average internet user. So, is there a way to check whether your database is available? If not I want to redirect the user to a friendly error page. |

Best advice would be to shut your forum down while the upload is in progress.

Search is your friend “I was having a mildly paranoid day, mostly due to the fact that the mad priest lady from over the river had taken to nailing weasels to my front door again.” |

Depending on what kind of changes you are making, I would strongly suggest using a remote database tool that allows you to restructure, view, modify, delete, insert etc. I use TableEditor with all my remote databases and the best part is, it is free and easy to set up. This remote web tool should prevent you from having to continually download and re-upload your databases.

It's not for a forum, it's for my exchange student website. I do close the place down before I download the database, but the problem is that the login page has to check with the db to see what error message to display, and that doesn't work when I'm uploading it.
I'm already using Table Editor but it won't let me do some operations such as adding or deleting fields from tables. |
