I have spent an hour searching and can't find the answer. I'm sure it's here so forgive me please, I tried.

I am ready to upload the "v34_05" version.
I have chosen MySQL database
I am using FP2000 to build the website but will upload using CuteFTP as always.
Server has FP Extensions
When I imported the files, FP created the fpdb file for me.

My questions is this. Which files to I upload to the "www" portion of my site and which do I upload to main file that lists the "www" folder on it? In the past I have only uploaded files into the "www" file and I want to make sure I get this step right.

Thank you. I suppose I will be back for more help when I get the upload done but will diligently read your forum before bothering you.

(PS TO NEWBIES. EVEN THOUGH IT TAKES LONGER TO READ THE FORUMS BEFORE ASKING QUESTIONS, YOU WILL FIND YOU LEARN THINGS THAT WILL SAVE YOU FROM HAVING TO COME BACK EVEN IF YOU DON'T FIND WHAT YOU WERE LOOKING FOR).

You need to upload all the files included in the Snitz download, except the tools.zip file. The .mdb file should be put in a different folder, with read / and write permission for the anonymous internet user. Have you read the Snitz readme file?

Yes, I have been following the directions in the readme file and have gotten to the place where it is time to upload the files to my website. Here is what it says

"Upload the files (except the Access database) to a folder on your server. Usually: /forum/
TIP: It is recommended that you use an FTP client in ASCII transfer mode to upload your ASP files."

I have imported the files into a new folder I created and titled "forum", as instructed, and in the process FP created the fpdb file (which I allowed thanks to info found here). The only thing I can't find in the instructions or here is clarity as to whether I should open the www file and upload the forum folder there along with all the other webpages and images I have uploaded or if I should upload the forum folder onto the server into that primary area where the "www" folder and a few others stored.

The forum folder needs to go inside the www folder. The www folder is the base from which all viewable content from your site begins, so the forum folder must go inside.

Frankly I'm not sure about the fpdb file. It's an FP thing and probably should be FP handlinf it. Anyway, that folder position relative to the forum needs to stay.

Also, if you are handling everything with FP, probably you could let FP upload all. Not sure about this, though, cause I really don't use FP at all.

In discussing databases in the Access database section, the readme file says

"TIP: It is advisable to make sure this directory is not accessible by the web to stop people from downloading your database."

I read here that putting things outside the www folder keeps them from being accessable by the web. This is what started my concerns about placement of the fpdb file since I got the impression that it should be uploaded outside the www file but was unable to confirm it.

fpdb is a dir that FP create to manage the db.
In that dir you can put yor db, changing in the config the string pointing to it.
The fpdb dir is unaccesible from the web, it has the write and read permission to host the accesss db.
generally it is put in the root dir of your site, so if you have forum in a dir called "/forum", your fpdb dir will be "/fpdb"
So you have a tree like this:
www.yoursite.xxx
www.yoursite.xxx/fpdb
www.yoursite.xxx/forum

With FP you can also change a dir in a subsite, if you do so, you can have a fpdb dir under the new subsite (/forum/fpdb) and also in this case the dir is unaccesiible from web and has the write read permission.

You are using MySQL right? or was that a mistake in the first post?

If you are using MySQL it really doesn't matter what FP does with the FPDB, and you won't need to upload the .mdb either... but thats if you are using MySQL...

Just looking for a little clarification before we bend over backward for a potential non-issue.

Also, if this site is going to consist solely of the forum, you can upload all of your forum files to the WWW root for your site. If it isn't, put your forum files in a folder (like 'forum/') and just keep the forum files there and put your other files in the WWW root. Or did I just confuse more here?

Yes I am using MySQL. I checked my IP Control Panel and confirmed that it did support it and since I couldn't confirm it supported the others, I stuck with it. The forum will be an added feature to the existing website, not the only component of it.

(When you reer to the "root dir of the site" are you referring to that first directory which also contains the www folder?)

Thanks for the assistance by the way.

With MySQL no need to worry about fpdb folder or the .mdb file. They are not needed.

You do not need to load the fpdb folder or the Access database supplied with Snitz since you are using MySql. By default, FrontPage creates the fpdb folder to store and organize all of the Access databases you may have for your site. Incidentally fpdb stands for Front Page Data Base.
