Dear HuwR,
I thank you for your last advise on finetuning the MySQL database. It has been running fine for almost 10 months until I received a call from my hosting company. Indexing follows as per the instruction of this thread. However, for the past few weeks my hosting company has been detecting overloading on my server. The told me to "optimize" the database because of the "query" commands.
Attached below is the screenshot they emailed to me:

Does it make any sense to you? It was running well for a few months and I am surprised that it can suddenly overload.
Thank you and appreciate all your advise.
Regards, Vincent |

not quite sure what they think is being overloaded, but that image would not indicate overloading at all, and the two things don't even correlate with one another, showing you a CPU graph and a list of 11 queries doesn't prove anything at all, and if their db is being overloaded by those 12 queries than they have a serious problem on their server. Next time they decide to send you such a picture, ask them to remove the filter on their monitor so that you can see all the other users that are accessing the database at the time they take the snapshot.
I will say that in view of the fact that they obviously have absolutely no idea what they are talking about you would be better off looking for another host. |

Thanks Huwr,
I owe you another beer when you are in Malaysia...I also questioned her on the phone..."What do you mean overload as it has been running smoothly for months?" The tech lady replied, "Oh, your queries are causing the overloading. You'd better optimize your MySQL. I'll send you the snapshot now. Bye!" -- Hang up.
I will ask them to remove the filter then to see the results.

HuwR,
I found out that my forum is with 200+ domain on the same server. But mine is the only forum and I have about 3,500+ members. She said that due to the heavy number of users conducting queries it causes the CPU resources to be very high.
Is their statement correct?

IT is extremely unlikely that your forum with 3,500 members would be causing excessive CPU usage even if they were all online at the same time, the problem is in the answer they gave 200+domains and by the sounds of it sharing the same server as mysql.
To be honest you would be better of looking for a host that actually knows what they are doing. |
