Dear modifichicci,
Yahooooooo, the archiving works now!!!! I am grateful to you. Come to Malaysia soon! Your beer is on me too!
I have almost solved 95% of my MySQL migration problem on the resources.
My only one last mystery is why is it by Disabling Recent Topics in the admin section makes my pop-up profile faster? Even now in the User Profile when you click on the link "Find all non-archived posts by (member)", it will timeout.
I would actually like to enable back the Recent Topics because sometimes it is faster for the users to find discussion related to the members.
Has it got something to do with one of the tables or it is an ASP code issue?
After this last hurdle solved, I will definitely write down a summary paper on my experience here.
Thanks, Vincent |

Ok I have checked the forum date/time configuration. The current date/time is almost the same with my PC. My PC time is faster by a minute but still finding the member's non-archived posting is a delay....
Thanks, Vincent |

HuwR,
I meant to write this some time back and I think it's time I do so. This maybe long and I am having a glass of Bavarian beer while writing.
Migrating from Access to MySQL maybe the most painful thing I have ever done because I don't know MySQL; from exporting the tables and data, to the non-GUI based interface, to setting the indexes, the mistakes, the reinstallation and so forth. It was a painful 2 weeks of technical hell for yours truly. But lemme tell you all, it was well worth it.
I learnt a lot from this experience; technically (still more to go) and personally (I gotta thank my hosting company for tolerating my 2AM calls and my wife for being patient with my fiddling), and after that my fishing forum running on MySQL was the best thing that I have ever done! In fact, Snitz should run on MySQL from day one if given a choice! My forum now runs flawlessly except for some admin issues (which HuwR is advising me) and my forumers really appreciate.
Many of you have no idea what the Snitz forum has done for me and my people in my small country -- Malaysia. I started my site fishing.net.my in year 2000 with a basic Frontpage forum. I left it alone and a few months later, I had 200 anglers registered. Of course, the forum crashed and I quickly upgraded to a HTML based forum later. It still crashed due to lack of security and robustness. Then in 2003 I found Snitz and it changed a lot of things.
With this forum, I managed to attract many anglers from Malaysia together and there were many touching moments where lost friends found each other here. My forumers self-organised fishing tournaments voluntarily until it caught the attention of major newspaper and fishing magazines. Tackle industry competitors sat down in the same table for dinner together. I met anglers from Europe and US here in Malaysia via my forum. People from different background, culture and race in Malaysia came together to celebrate what they love a lot via Snitz -- fishing.
But it was more than that; for once we made a lot of friends nationwide. Surprisingly, the forumers try to meet each other, for I encourage that it is always better to have a face to a name. We had politicans, civil servants and researchers coming in to ask us questions about the environment.
By global standard, my forum is still rather small in size. I have 3000+ registered members and an average of 4 million hits a month. It is still growing and I am still learning.
I run my site on a volunteer basis and I really thank the people who put this forum software up and the developers who provided the mods. It has made a tremendous impact for me and the anglers in Malaysia. It really has brought a lot of us together not just via the forum but in real life.
Guys, good job. Well done.
I am proud to be using Snitz for The Malaysian Fishing Net -- now one of the world's Top Ten Fishing Forum ranked by Tackletour.
Regards, Vincent |

This is a group photo of a function it brought some of the 120+ forumers and their family and friends together:

An award-winning golf course in Malaysia (where Anna & The King starring Jodie Foster was filmed), closed their lake which is located in their flagship course for the first time in their operations history, to allow us to fish over the weekend....all this organized by forumers from other states whom I barely meet in real life. Everything done via Snitz until the last moment when I had to drive up to meet the golf club owner. I created a private room where selected organizing committee members does the logistic and another private room where team captains deal with me and also for retailers to offer team discounts.
All in all, everything done via Snitz until the very last moment where the morning came ande everyone from all over the country drive to this club.
Snitz made it all happen.
