Just wondering if anyone gives the CDOSYS email component with IIS any good ratings. I have never used it and prefer JMail instead. But a client of mine wants email functionality on her server, so wondering which one to install.
Any opinions? |

Same here Davio, CDOSYS is found allot in scripts and the customer just wants that. If it makes them happy paying customers way not :) So far (for the last 5 years) I never had any problems with CDOSYS. |

Ok, CDOSYS it is. First time using CDOSYS. Any suggestions on securing it to allow only 1 site to send email from thier forum? I sure don't want it to be used to send spam. |

Mail Server? Hmm.
Since I didn't find any article on google about installing or enabling CDOSYS, I figured installing the "Smtp Mail" option in the Windows Programs in the Control Panel, would install CDOSYS.
After I did that, in IIS console I see the default mail server option. I quickly checked the Email Server configuration in the forum and saw the CDOSYS option in the list now. So I knew I got it installed.
I was just going through the properties for the default mail server and was looking for some help in making sure it is secure.
This is on a windows 2003 server with IIS 6. |

CDOSYS can have benefits over other email components when used with Snitz in particular. Becuase CDOSYS uses a "dropmail" system rather than talking directly to the SMTP Service like many other COMs it should process large volumes of mail a little quicker e.g. sending out forum subscriptions.
As for security, just make sure the relaying options are all set up correctly (allow relay for localhost, and authenticated users should be enough from memory). |

So once IIS is installed, CDOSYS can be accessed via vbscript? Hmm So the SMTP Mail that I installed is a simple mail server, correct?
Let me remove it and see if CDOSYS is still available. |

Yup. You are right. Just uninstalled the Smtp Mail option and it still showed up in the email config. |

She already has an email account provided by her host. Apparently the email server is not on the same server as the web server, since I can remotely access her web server using VNC.
All I needed to do was make sure CDOSYS was working and it is. So no problem there. |
