I have one particular thread that has received ten times the number of viewings of other threads. Is it possible to analyse this to find out who and why please?

You could check your serverlogs, and check for the referrers...

Nope, sorry for that. Not in the basecode at least.
There is however a 'refferer log' mod around somewhere ; that one stores the referrer (the page that refers the visitor to your site) in a database.
I think it was on http://www.snitzbitz.com
