Hi

We have the latest version of the forum installed and its been working fine for about 2 months. Today all im presented with is:

Application object error 'ASP 0227 : 80004005'

Disallowed object use

config.asp, line 230

Application variables can only be set in the Application_OnStart event within global.asa

I have made no changes to the code, and after searching these forums it does no need global.asa ?

Pointers really appreciated.

Something must have changed at the server. Talk to your host.

Is your host perhaps using an older version of Chilisoft, or maybe they switched you to a different server? Some ChiliSoft versions didn't handle application variables properly.

Thanks for the response.

I will check with my host to see if there have beem any changes at their end, as I have changed nothing I can only assume its the host. I did read that they system does not use global.asa, if this is the case why does the error refer to global.asa ?, if indeed it does use global.asa is there any way I can check that the correct entries are in the asa file.

Read the error message, it says that some code outside of global.asa is trying to change an application variable (which the Snitz code does in fact do). Not allowing this is a definite problem with the server, nothing to do with the code.

I am getting the same error message since the 25th. I have been on to my hosting company to get it resolved, quoting the above response from Doug. I have been exchanging emails for 4 days with them and it's still not fixed. They always blame the software.

Did you get this resolved John, if you have what was done to fix it?

Update. I have had an exchange of emails with John on our identical problem. Surprise surprise, we have discovered we are both using the same hosting company.

That confirms a server issue, as stated before.

I think it may be time for another chat with your host, or to consider a host mutiny and move to someone else!

I have also been having the same problem - in fact the last time my forum was running successfully was 24th December, since then I have had the same error.

John would your host by any chance be Webfusion (now known as Pipex)?
I am still waiting for feedback from the System Administrators at Webfusion.

Has anyone had any progress on this ?

Cheers,
Karen

Karen

Both John and myself are with WebFusion. My forum stoped at the same time. I have been emailing WebFusion Daily to get this resolved.

hmmmm - it seems WebFusion are a bit slow sorting out this problem. I have 3 call logs with them on this & it seems like they don't know how to sort it ....its a shame because upto now they have been good with their support.

Cheers,
Karen

Karen as you say the support has been good previously, but I have not had a need to contact support since they were taken over by Pipex.

It's now 2 weeks since I first logged a call and still it has not been sorted. The last email from them was 7 days ago.

Can anybody recommend a good UK based Hosting company?

Richard,
I have just installed phpbb and it works wonders. The tables are in the same database as the snitz tables so whilst I'm waiting for Webfusion to resolve their application server errors the I can transfer the data between the two sets of tables and use the phpbb version.

Cheers,
Karen

Hi,

I'm also still getting this error on my site hosted by the same company. Looking at my server details I see that it is now running SunONE ASP 3.6.2 and I think it used to run Chili!soft ASP Version 3.5.2.31. I guess they changed things over Xmas. Is this ASP system compatible with Snitz, or do you think they've changed permission settings?

Thanks,

Ric
