Tony, This is just coming out of left field here but something that I just found that you may want to check for to be safe. As I mentioned earlier I was getting the same response buffer error message that you were. After searching on the web I saw in a few places where it was suggested that a change be made to the response.buffer statement by changing it from 'true' to 'false' then the buffer wouldnt be trying to process all this information and timing out.

Well, I tried that in the config.asp file but when I tried to archive it went into a loop that was still running strong 45 minutes later and I know my test forum isnt that active.

After returning the response.buffer statement back to 'true', I figured the problem has to be in the admin_forum.asp which runs the archive scripting. I compared my current file with a file from a clean download using beyond compare and found that I was missing one drs.movenext statement after some code that I added. It was easy to miss and the initial error message was kind of ambiguous. I had to go back to the code to check because my host wouldnt alter my IIS settings for the response buffer.

If you're still having that problem where it seems like its taking forever, it might not hurt to go back through and compare all the files closely that you changed for the poll mod against a set of clean files from a fresh download. I keep a set of unaltered files on my server to compare against whenever I seem to be having problems.

Just sharing something that took me a week of looking at off and on to find and fix.

Thanks for the suggestion. With the 30 day free trial of Beyond Compare 2 I have checked default.asp where the hang occurs, but I see nothing obvious.

I hope I get the energy to check some of the other files before the trial runs out. But anyway, Ouija - the Logged_In_Users mod author, has responded and agreed to look at the code. I haven't heard from him for a week so I may just have to live without a featured poll.

What I want to know is did you actually see this amount of ChrisC?

Oh wait. It's still loading. And loading. And loading.

I also notice that you have placed the Active Users (AU) in there and it is not showing as the standard AU format. May I suggest that you put all but the modified AU in your default.asp and have a Featured Poll and see if it works.

If it does, then you should place change the way that you call the AU as you have not got it as a include, but modified your default.asp to include parts of the AU which would suggest that the mod you have done is not correct.

Suggest:

1. Get a original copy of default.asp and add the include statements for the Poll and the Calender and see what happens.

2. Then add the standard include for the AU in default and see if it still works.

3. If it does, then make the include look like what you are currently trying to display.

I currently have a couple of sites that run the featured poll, AU and Calender and do not have the time outs.

(VN Commodore and Oz Cruize are some examples.)

Cheers,

David Greening

I believe I saw 395 (? I didn't count them all) of them which is the total users. But only myself (TonyB) should have been logged in. Looking at the source, it had my profile linked to his name.

It's actually not AU; it's Logged_In_Users_Who_are_active. Yes, if I comment out that code in default.asp the Featured Poll works fine.

Maybe the best solution is to go with AU. This one seemed like the easiest to code, and lists each users name with a profile link.

The standard (original by Nathan) AU is really easy to code. I had a quick look at the MOD that you are using and it seems like it is not fully closing the DB connections, but that could just be me. Go back to the default default.asp and install the AU MOD as it does what you are after and a little bit more. When I get some time, I will install the poll, calendar and the version of Logged in users and try to work out what is fully going on.

Cheers,

Done. AU4 working good, even with a featured poll.

The coding may look easy to _you_, but with about 10X more edits and all the upgrade info AU4 *looks* a lot more daunting to the unwashed. But with all the trouble I've had with LIU clearly that's misleading.

It was also darn tough to find. The ls3k.com links aren't working.

Do you have a link for the AU4 mod. I'm struggling with the logged in users that are active mod
