Hi l have several Q can you help please.

1) The forgotton my password does not seem to work it is locking up on people when they try it.

2) For some reason it is taking ages to either do one or all of the following.. open a topic, ... add a reply.... go back. It just seems to hang at any of those points for no reason.

3) If you archive do you loose any topics and how often should you do it. We have the following 539 Members have made 872 posts in 24 forums, since sept. when we opened.

4) We have a Mac user that is unable to access the site anything you would advise extra they need to do please?

Any help with the above would be appreciated please

Thanks

This looks like you have an issue with your server and your Database.

The Forgotten Password first of all talks to your database to grab the information to confirm the user is in it, then it e-mails the user, so unless you have moded the password.asp file, then I would go the DB as you will see in the next response.

Since you are having issues with writing and reading from the database, then this ties in with the first question. Are you using an Access DB for your site? If you are, what is the connection string you are using? (Remember to change the DB name and path for security reasons)

You will not loose any topics by archiving them. The ammount of topics that you currently have is only small, but it would also depend on the size of the content of each item. As for when you do it, that is entirely your call.

The Mac user issues sounds like a problem I used to have with a Mac user a while ago. It turned out to be a long named image file. They would only get part of the screen and it would stop.

I simply found my long named image file and changed it to a smaller name and changed the asp code to suit the new name.

If you can supply a URL of the forum, I have a Mac and can test it for you. I hope the replies help with your needs.

Thanks for that this is the URL

http://www.rhodiechat.com/

I will get someone to look at the DB as l am afraid it is double dutch. I wouldnt know where to get the info and what to do with it
If we are using an Acess DB what should we do to it?

I still need to get the mod done so that the nortons users can get in.
We have got very big and l have not plucked up courage to do it yet. over 500 members since sept. when we started.

l did ask the bloke who wrote the site to do it but he is chinease and thought l was blaming him so he wouldnt do it kept saying that it wasnt HIS fault that there was a problem l gave up at that point!!!!!!.

500 members is cool, but only 872 posts oughtn't be causing you any problems - if that was your daily load I'd suggest maybe upgrading.

The db comments above are asking about which DB you're using and what the connectionstring is - I'm afraid you'll need to look at the forum code to find out.

OK, I finally had a chance today to have a look at your site under the MAC and it worked fine and was quick. I was able to sign up and look around with no issue. Not sure on what your problems are with the site as it worked as I would expect it to work if ther was nothing wrong.
