I've recently noticed that alot of spam is sent with my domains as sender. I was told that one way to minimize this is to set up a SPF record. From what I've read this must be set at the DNS, am I right?

Hm.. I have a web interface on my dns "host" where I set up my dns stuff. Do I just put in the string I got from openspf.org there?
I've tested dnsreport and it says I'm ok (you can try it with gotlandrace.com as domain) but my catch-all-account is drowning in error mails, approx 600/day. I don't think the mails are sent via my server, but I really want this to end...

The spf record hasn't been setup for gotlandrace.com yet according to DnsReport. Your host should be able to add this record for you if there is no provision for it in the web interface. You need to create a new "Text" record.
My opinion of a catch-all account is that its a disaster waiting to happen. If the sender or reply-to addresses (presumably of your domain) are not valid I believe the safest thing is to delete them or not accept them at all. A lot of virii (viruses) come disguised as "Mail Delivery Failure" errors.

Ok, so you suggest I shut down the catch-all-account? I thought it was a good idea to be able to see mail that was sent to the wrong account.. Maybe that's the way to go =) No SPF Record is set up yet, I'll contact my host and see if they can fix it (I doubt it...). Thanks =)

Here's what I've just done as I was getting sick of all the spam in my catchall
Send all email through a gmail account, which will spam-filter for you. Gmail then allows you to POP3 into your Gmail mailbox, and you have spam-stripped mails, but can still periodically look in gmail to see if it mislabelled any non-spam as spam (30-day auto-retention of spam mails). If someone sends you mail to pdgr@ instead of pdrg@ (as I sometimes get) then as long as the mail body doesn't look like spam, it gets through top your gmail account inbox, and you just pick it up with pop3 in Outlook as you (well, I) normally do, so you can still have it coming to the same inbox, just via the pretty route.

Do they? Guess I'd better use their UI a while to keep them sweet, but I don't see what I'd be doing against the rules here - just having my email come throuhg their service, just like they ask! |

Set up your own DNS if you own the domain name and have access to change the DNS records. I've used http://zoneedit.com for the last 4 or 5 years and have only had maybe 30 hours of outage. Free for 5 domains.
Just know that hardly anyone supports SPF and it has major drawbacks when it comes to store and forward systems. Your best bet is to dump the catch-all and don't use emails like sales@ or info@, or it will never end. |

I've dumped the catch-all-account =)
pdrg: won't it look like it's your server that's sending all spam if you forward all mails to gmail? If so, they'll probably be p-ssed on you and blacklist your server soon?
