yay! Let's get into a Linux vs Windows debate
...actually let's steer clear of that one after saying there are definite advantages to both routes dependent on many, many factors. Both sides have their evangelists and spin doctors, and both sides have to conceed the other side keep them on their toes. The world is big enough for multiple OS'es |

The argument is [if you are building a server and need an OS] that you have to purchase Windows to properly serve up ASP pages where as Linux is free. Of course this all becomes irrelevant if you are using a normal hosting package that costs the same either way or are getting servers through someone else where they usually include your choice of OS at no cost, be it windows, Linux, or anything else. |

Perhaps to steer this back on to a Snitzable topic, what precisely are the features in these other programs that Snitz doesn't have mods for?
I tend to get people saying the same thing about the forums now and then (I like xxx because it has yyyy). Slightly different than the wish list since it's basically just the features that are in other forums that we can all see working.

Oh, and somewhat on/off topic... converters for most of the php forums to Snitz, for those who want to convert. We have one of the few (if only) asp forums that works on MySQL... we need the converters to help the converts.

The newest versions of the most popular forum offerings have tons of features that "old-school" forums don't have. They're in a big race, so to speak, to stay in front.
The "wish list" I've seen here contains many of the features that are standard on current paid forums:

I have no experience of other forums except reading and posting. However I am very happy with Snitz because it is written in ASP wich is the code I have on my site doing a lot of other things then the forum does. Beeing a non-coder/-webber I wouldn't have the time to learn another technique of coding without drawbacks for my sites content and attraction. It's content and interaction that counts in the end for many of us using the forum only as a way of changing "the world";). I am not anti any other forums, I am just pro Snitz! |

Of course you've paid. IIS and ASP are not stand-alone programs, they are bundled with windows, so you paid to use ASP. And if you use SunOne, you pay MS also, since Sun pays to license the technology from MS.
