Well, I think the time is right to show off two recent projects, both based on the same code as used on oxle.com. The first one is the forum I've set up for my Scouting group ; Scouting Keent-Moesel. It's in Dutch (I've almost completed the translation), so I guess most of you won't see what it's all about, but I hope to receive some feedback on the layout and colour scheme. The colour scheme has been made upon the logo design by our 'PR' guy Jan, and uses 4 basic colours ; grey, black, white and a reddish colour. These colours are also used in the scarf of our group, so that's why I used them too in the site.
The other one is ForumCode.com, a project I'm doing together with sr_erick and muzishun. Bill (muzishun) is going to revamp the entire design in a couple of weeks, but you can have a general idea of the site already. We decided to stick with Snitz (oxled) for the time being, as we haven't found another package able to fulfil both the function as forum as well as site (articles, etc).
I really appreciate all feedback, so don't hold back!
Test accounts are not necessary, as guest posting is enabled on both sites |

I like the forumcode.com site, and I will definatly have to explore it further this weekend. I wish I had spent more time on it previously already
I'll get to the scout site tonight too. |

I like both sites. Is the oxle code available for public download? |

I'm afraid not...it's way too buggy .. Have given it in the past to Golfmann and a friend of mine (at aufderaxe.com), and they found too many bugs and quirks...
Perhaps I'll release it as a complete 'as is' package, without any guarantees.... |

I would be willing to take it without any guarantees. After all, free is free, right? It might force me to dig deeper, and learn ASP better. |

I'll consider it....perhaps I'll release it as I said, as a no guarantees no warranty mod. |

finally got to check out the scouting one... I like it. One day I will be able to read it
Needed to add something: I registered an account for forumcode.com and when I went to activate it everything went fine. However, the first time I went to log in it gave me the "Your activation key was not found .... [etc.]" message. It let me log in, but I got that error. Just thought I'd let you know. |

Thanks for the compliment AnonJr!
I guess the problem with the activation key is in the referrer - after logging in it takes you back to the page you came from, which was the registration activtation page. Since you've already actived the registration, this error occurs. |

Marcel, on Forumcode, what have you used to allow members to upload their own avatar and to allow avatars up to 80*80? Is that DoraMoon's code? |

Good question...let me dig into my memory ... I think I took the avatar mod that was in CrashCode (now GML), and removed the fixed avatar dimensions on topic.asp. Oh, in pop_add_avatar.asp I see the following :
quote: '################################################################################# '## Part of the Avatar Mod by: Richard Kinser ## '#################################################################################
So, I guess it's Richards mod. I've also changed the upload method, and changed the foldername from the username to the member_id (to avoid conflicts after nickchanges, and to avoid folders with strange characters). I manually approve all avatars, which allows me to filter out all avatars wider than 80 pixels.

they both look good Marcel. You seem to have a keen eye for detail - so my only comment would be to translate the user statistics on your scouting page into dutch.
i especially like the rope down right hand side of the page. How did you do that, are there any other similar graphics that can be used? That'd work well on one of the pages i am doing.
on your forumcode page, i struggle to find a link to the default.asp page of the forum. where is it? i only see links for the various categories. |

Well, chumbawamba, I must say you've got a keen eye for detail yourself too! The forum statistics is the thing I'm translating tonight. The rope was some graphic I found on google images, when searching for "rope" + "tile". At first I had a simple gradient shadow effect (as on oxle.com and forumcode.com), but I decided the Scouting site needed more of a 'scout'effect. The rope did the trick.
Another thing you noticed very accurately is the lack of a link to default.asp on forumcode.com. I removed that on purpose, reducing the visibility of the forum, and trying to create a 'site' instead of 'just a forum'. Moderators/Admin's will see the link to the normal forums.asp page (renamed default.asp), but visitors and normal members will see the different categories instead of all categories. |
