Hi,

I am confused about categories and forums and such.

When you login to the forums it shows:

General in the Drop down "Choose Category Group" and below it says "No Categories/Forums Found
Statistics "

If i click on the hyperlink "Group Category Menu" it then displays all the Discussion Groups I created.

Can someone explain this and what i am doing wrong? I'd like it when a user logins, to display all the Discussion Groups i created.

Thanks,

Bill

Probably the easier way out that would be to disable the category group option, from admin options->forum configuration. Otherwise you can use the option to edit the group categories configuration and add all the desired ctageories do the default categories group.

So far i haven't done anything. But i did go in the edit category for general and only one discussion group shows up below where you can add. Wonder where the other 10 are?

You have 10 categories? It will only show categories, not forums.

Still waiting for someone to explain what this means. I deleted all the categories. I click on "All Forums" and nothing comes up. So where is general now? I know it is there. I add one category and when i list the category, it says below it "No Forums Found" .

So someone please explain what this all means. I simply want one forum i guess?? With about 11 seperate areas to post different topics. Can someone please explain in english?

Thanks,

Bill

If you deleted all categories then you deleted all forums with them. You will have to create them.

At the top of everything you have the board. Ours here, it's the Snitz forums board. A board can have several categories. A category is a general group, I would say a first level grouping mechanism, to organize your board's contents. At Snitz we have several categories (visit the default page): Announcements, A Testing Area, Help Groups for Snitz Forums 2000 Users, etc.

A category is a mechanism to group related forums. It can have one or more forums. For example at Snitz, the Help Groups for Snitz Forums 2000 Users category has 9 forums: Help: General / Current Version (v3.4.xx), Help: General / Previous versions, Help: Database: MS Access, etc.

A forum is a place where you can post topics. I hope you get the picture now.

I am reading the FAQ's below from this website. I login as administrator and get the following:

Forum Topics Posts Last Post Moderator(s)
No Categories/Forums Found
Statistics

According to the FAQ's the pink folder icon should create a new forum but it only says new category.

How do I create / edit / lock / delete a new category or forum?
You must be logged in as the Administrator to create, edit, delete or lock a category or forum. When you login, on the right hand side of the main page of your forum you will see a series of icons

Create - Edit - Lock - Delete -

Click on the relevant icon. The following steps are straight forward.

You have several pink icons. Move the mouse over them. It will show a tip indication the one to use.

okay i think i got it after playing for hours. I have a category created with eleven different forums. I think all this lingo is confusing... too many this and thats. It comes up now the way i want it. But now i login as a user and on the right of all these forums is a pink folder that says "New Topic". Now there is something else to deal with. Is this topic another subfolder of my forum?

When I try to create a new forum, I get the following error - everything is fine with the testing forum, just a problem creating a new forum. Any ideas?

Microsoft JET Database Engine error '80004005'
Field 'FORUM_FORUM.F_L_ARCHIVE' cannot be a zero-length string.

Bob, why are you dragging up a topic that's over a year old to post a completely unrelated problem? Please create a new topic for your issue.
