Hey, is it possible to create a new member type on my forum? As in can I add a member group other than: normal member, moderator or admistrator?
I only want to do this for show, ie I won't be wanting to assign any special attribute to the member groups. I would like to make a group called "contributors" to make it clear if the member has submitted items to my website. |

Will add a new, custom M_LEVEL between normal users an moderators. So, where normal members previously had an M_LEVEL of 1, moderators had 2 and admins had 3, normal members still have one, moderators have 3 and admins have 4 with 2 being your new M_LEVEL.

Search is your friend “I was having a mildly paranoid day, mostly due to the fact that the mad priest lady from over the river had taken to nailing weasels to my front door again.” |

Not if you want to create a new member level. If it's just for show, why not just give the members in question custom titles?

Because then they lose their origianl titles.
I suppose what I'm after really is a second member title, is that at a ll possible? |

Following on from above, could I use something like a new M_LEVEL for a member who I just want to have access to one of the Topics on the forum. Otherwise the only other way I can see of doing this is to make the rest of the forum topics member only and the one I want him to have access to general.
Any feedback would be appreciated. |

It's a lot of work just to allow one person access to one single topic. If you just want him to be able to read the contents of the topic and this is a one time thing, I'd suggest creating a new ASP page to pull that topic up for him.

Shaggy,
thanks for the reply, he would in fact have regular access but only to a specific topic... it's a long story. I will see what I can do with the tools already available in the forum software. |

If it's only one person and one topic then i would recommend creating a new, custom page for him to access the topic from rather than hacking through all the changes in that topic. Does he need to be able to reply to the topic?

Yes he needs to be able to make reply's to the topic. I think I will just not let him have access, that would be the easiest thing to do.
Thanks for the comments though, I appreciate you guy's spending the time replying to the posts. |
