While doing some routine "house cleaning" on my main web site I somehow damaged my Snitz forum. I now receive a "the page cannot be displayed message" instead of my forum. I sent a trouble ticket to my web hosting service, hoping for some advice and receive the following response:
It would appear that you have broken something in your asp code;
Microsoft VBScript runtime error '800a000d'

Type mismatch: 'ReadLastHereDate'

/forum/Default.asp, line 51

The error is caused by some operation relating to ReadLastHereDate in the Default.asp file in your forum directory. The type mismatch error generally means that you are attempting to store a string in an integer or something similar.

As they do not offer web design support they can go no further. I have downloaded the newest version of Snitz in case it is needed but do not know how to proceed or repair this problem. I was hoping for an install guide or other advice. My forum is located at www.windowstalk.org/forum.

Thanks in Advance,

Neal Duitz

Try uploading a fresh inc_func_common.asp file, after backing up the current one.

Just tried to run setup.asp in your forum and I got the information that your config.asp file does not specify a value for strDBType and strConnString. Did you change config.asp?

Thanks for the replies. As I could not determine which file was damaged or missing and the forum was dead anyway, I figured that I had little to lose so what I ultimately did was to edit the config.asp file, supplying the connection string information as per the readme file and then uploaded ALL of the forum files to the server. This seems to have worked and the forum seems to be just fine. In fact, one of my readers even commented that the forum seems faster now.

Interestingly, while this procedure did restore the forum, it did not appear to upgrade it either.

Thanks Again,

Neal Duitz

You need to run setup.asp for the database to be upgraded. Try it.

Thanks for the reply. I just tried to run setup.asp, however although I navigated there using "My Network Places", every time I try and execute the file in just opens in Front Page and does not execute. How do I make this file run and perform the update?

Thanks Again,

Neal Duitz

You need to run the page within a web browser /forum/setup.asp

Just click this link and insert the required data when so prompted: http://www.windowstalk.org/forum/setup.asp
