One of my new members just told me that he's been the victim of an internet stalker for over a year. The stalker/hacker has ruined 3 of his PCs, infiltrated his email accounts, and taken over a couple of Yahoo groups he operated.
My Snitz forum is provided by my web host, and since I use a Mac I haven't really worried about hackers before.
Is there any damage a hacker could do to my Snitz forum if he set his mind to it? Is there anything I should be on the lookout for?
Any help with this is greatly appreciated.
Thanks -Nina |

there's not really much you can do bar coming up with an extremely obscure name for your database (if you're using access) and, if possible, placing it somewhere inaccessible to the net. Snitz does encode passwords though, so I suppose the only thing at risk really would be email addresses and details submitted in profiles, but unless you operate a fairly big forum with some complete n*$£heads on it so long as you keep uptodate on snitz versions and patches your forums are probably pretty safe. |

Thank you for the response, Jezmeister.
My forum is pretty small - it's based on a rather obscure form of Spiritual practice. I haven't had many miscreants there so far. I read through all the posts every day, and hopefully I'll be able to stave off an attack in the early stages.
If I have any further problems, it's nice to know I can come here for advice and help.
Warmth- Nina |
