Does anyone know of a good place to learn about RegEx? I've found a few tutorials online, but they are language specific. I guess my first question is: are regular expressions the same for all languages? For example, if I have a RegEx string in VB, will it work the same in Perl or PHP? I know the implementation uses different sytax, but the strings themselves should be the same, right?
I think that's all I can think of off the top of my head. I'm just starting to get into RegEx, and I'd like to start using them more in sites and webapps that I develop. Thanks. |

RegEx itself is independent of language *but* different engines implement different parts of it. There are not many decent tutorials out there - so many of them I found were really rather basic, then missed the useful bit and went straight to confusing.
One of the best RegEx lists I ever found was a single page on MSDN and then I spent a long time practicing and playing (forgotten most of it now, though, but I was really blown away with how powerful and versatile they were). Unless anyone knows better, playing is really where it's at to get to grips with it! |

Podge provided me with a couple of good links when I was trying to make a start with RegExs which you can find here.
