I'm installing the Spell Check Mod:

http://www.snitzbitz.com/mods/details.asp?Version=All&mid=81

Everything is going fine, but I have a slight problem.

The readme file says:

pop_spellcheck.asp

On line 47 set your database connection:

spellConnStr = "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=" & Server.MapPath("dictionary2000.mdb")

Make sure it points to where you put dictionary2000.mdb
Remember to have the permissions set correctly
.

My question is how do I point to where I put the dictionary2000.mdb? My server doesn't have a specific folder for databases at all. In fact, they don't really have specific folders for anything. Most everything is just there, without any sort of structure. I wasn't the person who started the site, but I'm not the admin and am slowly upgrading it.

Anyways, I put the database in a folder called "DBD". It's the only file in that folder. How would I specify in the pop_spellcheck.asp file that that's the folder where the database is located in?

And also, what exactly are permission settings? I've never had to work with those and an unfamiliar with them.

Please let me know asap so that I can finish up this mod and move on to another. With your help, this'll be my third successful installation!

You can use the whereami.asp page like you would for looking for where youe database is. Just put it in the folder that your dictionary2000.mdb is in, them call the page up in your browser to see the correct path to it.

Just remember that this page is going to give you a path for snitz_forums_2000.mdb so you will have to rename it dictionary2000.mdb

I'm a bit confused.

Do I save the whereami page you linked me to as a Text Document and upload that to my server in the same folder as my database is in or what?

Sorry, this is still pretty new to me.

Copy the whole page and save it as whereami.asp (or whatever you want to name it)
Then but it in the same folder as you dictionary and goto the page:
www.yoursitename.com/forum/dictionary_folder/whereami.asp

Well, I copied it and it's in a folder called "DBD" on my server, along with the database.

I get the following error:

Spell Check Microsoft JET Database Engine error '80004005'
'D:\sites\SOD_Forums\database\dictionary2000.mdb' is not a valid path. Make sure that the path name is spelled correctly and that you are connected to the server on which the file resides.

/bbs/pop_spellcheck.asp, line 94

The problem is that when I try

www.schoolofduel.com/forum/dictionary_folder/whereami.asp

It doesn't work.

What can I do to find the connection to put in pop_spellcheck.asp?

Is the folder that you put it in called dictionary_folder?
I just put that in the url above so you would know that whatever your dictionary folder name is, you are supossed to put that in your url

Well, here's what I did. I renamed the database folder to: dictionary_folder

Then I put dictionary2000.mdb and whereami.asp. I tried using that "link" you suggested but it kept giving me page errors. I now get the following error message in the spell check pop-up:

Spell Check Microsoft JET Database Engine error '80004005'
'D:\sites\SOD_Forums\dictionary_folder\dictionary2000.mdb' is not a valid path. Make sure that the path name is spelled correctly and that you are connected to the server on which the file resides.

/bbs/pop_spellcheck.asp, line 94

What is the problem here?

Sorry for the double post, but this can be locked now.

I fixed it all. The problem was a backslash in the pop_spellcheck.asp file that shouldn't be there.

glad you fixed it.
On your home page, on DesktopDefault.aspx, in the lower left hand corner, the link for the forum goes to an ip address then gives and error.

Thought i'd let you know

Yeah, thanks for letting me know. The homepage has issues and I'm going to start fixing it up soon.

In the meantime, just click the "Forums" icon at the top panel and it'll take you to the forums.

That's awesome.

Actually, I wasn't the founder of the forum. The first Professor Duel created the site, but the company that founded the board ran into problems and the programmer quit. Then, I became administrator and am now working to get it back into shape and fix things that haven't been fixed in a very long time.

With this site's awesome help, I've already:

Added Email Search
Added Admin Tools
Added WebSearch
Added FAQ Administration
Added Spell Check

And that was in two days! You guys have really helped me out a ton!

dabugster, I hope your stepson enjoys our board. It's a really friendly site and one of the largest ones as well.
