Is it possible to display the actual name (e.i. Joe Smith) of the member instead of the Username (e.i. bigjoe) in the forums?

You'd need to change code for that. I remember people asking that before, so try a search to find out whether a solution has ever been published.

You'd also need to make it mandatory for members to complete the forename & surname fields.
