I'v just updated from V3.4.03 to V3.4.05. I've updated the DB, there were no errors, I have added code for previously installed Mods, no errors there either as they are all working fine.
I can login as 'Admin' no problem yet I cannot login to the Admin_Home.asp page, no error message, just a 500 Internal Server Error.
The only other topic simialr to this problem is here but this did not resolve the problem for me.
If anybody has any suggestions, I'd love to hear. Thanks for your time

Turn off friendly HTTP error messages in IE to see what the exact problem is, assuming, that is, that your host isn't just serving up their own error pages, in which case you'll have to go into your logs to find the error.

I'm sorry shaggy but I think you'll have to elaborate slightly on that. I already had friendlt HTTP eror messages off in IE. So you say I need to go into my logs to find the error.
Which logs should I be looking at?

More than likely, you'll find the error you're looking for in the third one.

Ok, looked in there and the last two logs are from today but to be honest, what do they mean? I can understand some of the previous errors that are logged but I don't understand the last two..

I have to admit, I'm way out of my depth at this stage And also, I dont have a robots.txt file on the above site |

That's a spider looking for your robots.txt file, which you don't have. Recreate the admin error and then open the log file again, the error you're after should be the newest one.

I did all of the above yet when I re-checked the log file, there was no change. Is it possible that the server updates the log files once a day?
Current date in the log files; Mar 20, 2005 09:08 PM

Ay, that could be the case, make a note of the time you last had the error and next time the logs are updated, you should be able to ferret it out.

In the meantime, try acessing one of the other admin pages directly, see if it works. If so, then it's a problem with your admin_home.asp file. Try uploading a fresh, unmodded copy, if you can or, if not, post a link to a *.txt copy.
Got your mail by the way, but logging in didn't shed any light on the problem. Why do some hosts force their own 500 errors on us; don't they know anything about the debugging process?!
<edit>Just tested a couple other admin pages meself and they all load up fine so it's an error in your admin_home.asp.</edit>

Problem solved, had been using Beyond Compare from old version to newer, yet due to size of screen could not see that the code had not been written correctly.
My bad
