As a newcomer to this forum, and from what I have seen of the Events Calendar (www.ausbream.com), it would seem that Red1 did a stellar job on it. It is obvious that SOMETHING bigtime occurred to cause him to vanish. It is equally obvious that he is missed.
However - since it appears unlikely that he will return, we would be wise to move on. Deferring to the legal types, the open source nature of this software should allow us to carry on in some fashion.
Does anybody have a copy of the ver 3.4.05 events calendar add-on that can be posted - or, at least emailed upon request.
My own interest stems from my need to move a three-year old forum using Snitz v3.3.03, to a new host, using Snitz v3.4.05. The old install includes the events calendar, and some custom coding. In looking at the code for v.3.3.03, upgrading the old add-on calendar to work with v.3.4.05 looks like a daunting task to this newbee asp user.
Is there anybody out there who can get us over this hump?

Mods aren't always considered to be open-source and free for all to distribute simply because they are an add-on for Snitz (see here). Aside from that fact, there is a degree of respect among members of the community whereby we won't make another member's mod available for download if it is clear (as in this case) that they do not want it to be made available unless we have permission from that member to do so.

I find this really unfair of Red1 to pull all his mods. It doesn't matter what the problem was, the Snitz Community should not pay for it. If he needs to leave for whatever reason, at least leave the mods for the rest of the users to use. It's enough that the mod won't be updated by him, but at least someone can take it up.
If anyone wants to re-release the mod, leaving credit to the original author, feel free to do so. It is very sad to see mod author's behave like this. |

It is sad & unfair to a degree but I don't think we should be judging his behaviour without fully knowing his reasons. Something pretty drastic must have happened to cause him to not only pull his mods but also shut down his site and disappear from the interweb altogether.

Does it matter what his reasons are? If he is upset at something someone said here, or if someone close to him died (my condolences if that is the case), the Snitz Community shouldn't be punished because of it. This is open source community. That means he can't stop anyone from publishing the code he wrote.
Sure, out of respect for him, we don't republish his code. But what if he never comes back?
If out of respect we don't republish the mod (for now) at least some of the persons who have already downloaded the mod, offer to give the mod to anyone who asks for it. |

I was under the impression that a Snitz mod is only considered open source if it uses any of the Snitz code as mentioned in the post I linked to further up, maybe I misinterpretted?
Anywee, I wasn't trying to stop anyone distributing the mod (not that I could ), just offering my thoughts and opinions on the issue; personally, I wouldn't feel right uploading it to my server for others to download without Red's permission, but that's just me - to each their own.

His mod doesn't incorporates any of the Snitz code? If so, then that's a different story. |

As far as I know, it doesn't; have never gotten right down into it to see if there's a datetostr or strtodate wandering around in there anywhere
<edit> My bad, just opened a couple of his files and found a couple of Snitz includes. I know previous calendar mods didn't use any Snitz code nor includes. </edit>

I have a copy of it here, but until we know the full story are reluctant to place it up online or send it out, HRed1 had his reasons and if he hasn't come back with-in say 3 months, then should I make a few changes and then place it online to download?
I want to be fair to Red1 and the Snitz community at the same time. So what are your thoughts?

I have updated the snitzbitz site. Removed his deleted mods but left the Events Calendar Mod with a note. http://www.snitzbitz.com/mods/details.asp?Version=All&mid=66
I would rather we at least email the mod to persons who ask for it. And later on, put it up back again for download.
I think that's fair to both sides.
I don't think I have the latest version of the events calendar mod. One of you guys can email it to me? Thanks. |

Davio,
You get it yet?
I have what I believe is the most current version including the fixes of 1st Feb 05. However I am with Classicmotorcycling (David) on the principals of sending it out.
Surely some-one somewhere must have some contact details for Red1.
The thing that has me puzzled is even if something has happened, he went to the trouble of deleting all his mods and his site? Seems a clear message to me.
And yes I think it is penalising all members which is the sad part. Clearly from the posts on the forums he enjoyed good and loyal support from his colleagues.
As you say lets wait a period of time and if nothing; put them back up with full credits to him. I am sure that given the quality mods he produced many will take up the continued development of them.
Cheers
Neil.
