Hello,
Can someone tell me how to configure Snitz to update posters to a thread automatically (via e mail) if someone makes a new post to that thread?
Thanks!
Running most recent version of Snitz on Win 2003 server. Mail server is SmarterMail (not MS generic mail server), just in case this matters. |

You can enable subscriptions and have users subscribe to threads they want to receive notifications of.
You have to turn on subscriptions under Admin Section -> Feature Configuration, and for each individual forum. |

Hi,
Thank you very much for the helpful response.
I configured Snitz to allow subscription at "Category" at the highest level (in Feature Configuration"). Then, at the category level, I chose "Category Subscriptions Allowed" for certain categories, and using my admin account I subscribed to these categories.
I then edited properties for each forum in the above categories, and chose "Topic Subscriptions Allowed" in the Subscription dropdown.
At present, things are working fine at the "regular user" level. The regular user just subscribes when he/she posts a topic, and when I update the topic using my admin account, the notification e mail goes out to the regular user. The problem I'm having is that when the regular user makes the initial post or a reply, I'm not getting the expected e mail notification as admin (remember, I subscribed to the whole category).
My "E Mail Mode" is set to "on" in the E-mail Server Configuration section. Originally, I had this set to "off", as it appeared I had to configure my mail server to open relay mode in order to allow Snitz to provide server-to-client e-mail capability for ad-hoc messaging. I then turned E Mail Mode back to "on", as it appears this is necessary in order to facilitate e mail posting notifications to regular users that subscribe to topics.
Thus, at present, here are my two questions:
(1) How do I get e mail posting notifications to be sent to my admin e mail address when a regular user posts a topic in a category I have subscribed to as admin?
(2) Since I must have E Mail Mode set to "on" in order to have posting notifications go out to subscribers, how do I enable ad-hoc e mail messaging at the server level without implementing an open relay? This is an issue because Snitz gives no error warning when server side e mail sending is attempted at current without the open relay (it appears to send the e mail, but actually doesn't). Please note again I am not using the generic MS SMTP mail server, but am using a proprietary mail server (SmarterMail).
Thanks!! |

Hi,
Any other users have info on my questions? Jorrit advises he is not sure of answers to questions in my reply post, so if anyone can respond I'd be most appreciative.
Thanks |

I appear to be having the same problems as Stewart. Although I'm subscribed to the category to get email posting notifications to anything posted into that category, I am not getting any.
I do know that the email from Snitz Forums aapears to be working, in my case with the generic MS SMTP server, because new user email verifications are being sent and sending email to a user from the "Email Poster" option in a topic works fine.
Stewart, anyone, if you can shed some light on this for me, I'd appreciate your input.
Thanks! ct
