Hi everyone.. hoping someone can help me with this. I'm new to this, so be gentle with your responses, please!
I would like to remove the login name and password from the forum and move it to the main site so that members have access to the whole site and don't have to log in to different parts of it. I want to use a unversal type login starting from the main page.
Also, is there a mod or something that will allow me to see which members are actually on the forum at any given time? Maybe at the bottom of the main forum page...or in the admin section? Would be nice to know who is online when I am.
Finally... When you go into edit a members profile...say you wanted to reset their password it puts YOUR username and current password in there...why does it replace that members with the admins information?
And, if anyone is available to volunteer, help me get mods working, i'd be grateful. :)
Thanks and spanks, peach |

I'm working on the same problem. We have a members only site that requires a login. I would like to integrate the login for the forum with the login for the site as a whole. I just spent a long time, and I think I've got it working, but after all is said and done, I think there must have been a better way.
What I finally did was to use the snitz login page as the login page for the entire site. I could not figure out what the snitz login page assigns in terms of session variables and cookies after the login. If I had, I would have used those to check for authentication on my own pages. So, at the top of the snitz login page, I entered my own little routine that checks to see if the login form has been submitted, then checks the username and password from the database, they assigns a few session variables that I use on my pages for authentication. After it runs my routine, it goes on and executes the snitz routine.
For the most part it's working for me. However, I've occassionally gotten an error message that says it's used up the alotted redirects. The only way out of that is to close down the browser and start over. I suspect that my session variables had timed out before the snitz session variable or cookies did, and it was causing a lot of redirecting back and forth. Not sure. I increased the timeout on my session variables - I hope that helps. If it doesn't, I got to start all over again.
I think that once, a long time ago when I didn't need it, I did see mention of a mod that does what we are trying to do. I'd really appreciate knowing about it, too. |

Firstly you, even as admin, have no chance of obtaining a members password or changing their password. The password in the db is encryped for a reason However in regards to the mod addon have you guys not tried the following mod? It worked beautifully for me when outside the forum:
http://www.snitzbitz.com/mods/details.asp?Version=All&mid=71
And the second person...dude some of the simplest things are free in life. Work smarter and not harder....heh Although I must admit you did more then I would of done. |

For the second: http://forum.snitz.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=56758&SearchTerms=active,users and you'll be able to find the first active users mod on www.snitzbitz.com
and the final one: I've never seen that. admins have to login again before accessing the other members profiles... if you mean its replacing the fields in the edit profile bit take a look at your browser settings - the only other thing i can think of is that you have it set to automatically fill those fields on your site.
This post is brought to you in association with Search. |

TStewart the problem with the password being filled in was because I use FIrefox and I'm not turning it off. I figured out what was causing it and I just make sure if I go in to edit a profile that I remove my information from their boxes. No big deal.
The main reason for this post of peachy's was because we want to make a login portal from the main page. Neither she nor I have any clue how to do this. Until just this second I was unable to post because it took 4 days for Snitz to send me the authorization email so I could get on and post myself.
As for the mods, have we tried this one and that one. Well yes! I've tried to install several mods and none of them want to work with the new version. The newletter mod is the only one that I've come even close to getting to work and even that one won't do anything because it tells us that the database is empty, which it's not.
Now could someone please answer for us the original questions?
How do we make a sitewide login page? (We are both new and have no clue how to do this)
And secondly, is there anyone on here that's willing to give us a hand to get these things working? Apparently there are very few that work with the latest version of snitz without alot of editing and neither of us have any idea what we're doing so that won't help either. |

Practically all mod's, if not all that are written for Snitz v 3.4 will work with 3.4.05, the line numbers may be slightly different but they will work, just persevere and take a look for similar lines to the ones you're inserting. As for the newsletter mod it sounds to me like you didn't run the dbs file...
The universal login mod is extremely simple, it requires no code changes etc. just make sure you include the neccesary files and make the page .asp not .htm/.html etc |

I am struggling with this as well: Is it possible to make a more direct link: from this: <!--#INCLUDE VIRTUAL="forum/inc_login.asp"--> to this?: <!--#INCLUDE VIRTUAL="http://mysite.com/forum/inc_login.asp"-->
In my situation my Website lives on a different server entirely from my Forum, yet i would like to restrict logins to the website by using the members database of the forum.

niteowl, no the script needs to be on the same site. You can still use the login mod if you upload copies of your config.asp, inc_header.asp etc onto the websites server - you should still be able to connect to the forums database. |

odone you can extract the neccessary code from inc_header and include it into your page, i dont have the files with me here but if you want i could email you an 'invisible' version of inc_header that would still allow you to use inc_login.
as for asp.net i wouldnt know, ive never used it. |

Hm???. This start from the webroot. <!--#include virtual="/forum/config.asp"--> <!--#INCLUDE virtual="/forum/inc_func_common.asp" --> And this dont works, whay you have mybi the files in a folder outside the forums. <!--#INCLUDE VIRTUAL="forum/inc_login.asp"--> Or try to get a the virtual from this folder, but that dont get back to the webroot. In this case you have the forums to bi in a subfolders on that dir. This is simple logic fore newbie, try to se how the path are on your webhotel.
I gues you have somthing simalar to this here. /dir1/ /dir2/subdir1/subdir2/ /forums/ If you want to call the login from . dir1 and dir2 you ned this here ../forums/inc_func_common.asp subdir1 you ned this here ../../forums/inc_func_common.asp subdir2 you ned this here ../../../forums/inc_func_common.asp Now we think logical or use virtual and not file in the include /forums/forum/inc_func_common.asp This start from the webroot evry times
If you want the header to bi include all files and path have you to edit to use this, but you can made a copy of inc_header_short or made this to virtual to use on other pages, just renember all files there is include are to ben modifici to use that inc_iconfiles etc if you not edit the files that can show the icons, logo etc.
