Ok, while helping out my mother with a bedframe from a second-hand store, I saw a scanner for sale for 5 bucks. I couldnt resist, if it works, wonderful; if not, only 5 bucks.
Its a Plustek Optic Pro UT12
Anyway, I went to the Plustek website, downloaded the alleged driver for it, and through windows "Add New Hardware" wizard, I supposedly installed the drivers.
According to windows, "The device is working properly"
However, Otherwise there is no sign on the computer that the scanner exists. When I open Paint Shop Pro 9 and try a Twain Aquire, it dosnt show up in the list (there is no list, as a matter of fact...) - When I try "Other" it says "No WIA devices found"
I got the driver from this URL: http://www.plustek.com/download/ut12.htm
Now, according to the instructions, I'm supposed to enter the serial number somewhere, but at no time during the installation did a prompt come up for a serial number.
I downloaded the user manual, only to find it to be of no use. As it assumes that I have the entire software package as if I bought it new.
It's occured to me that it may just not work, but I figured if that were the case it wouldnt say "This device is working properly". I have a feeling its something to do with the driver, not the scanner; because I never entered a serial anywhere.
Anyone have any ideas? (Yes, I've googled it)
Oh yeah, and the scanner Is plugged in, USB connected, and the light under the bed is on. |

Hmmmm.... Is there anyway to get the software for it ???
I use XP Pro so 90% of my devices do not have the software installed because XP Pro seems to do a fine job of running the devices on it's own. |
Here is a link to my Snitz powered Drag Racing site. |

:P 5 bucks was an excellent deal. I just got it working...
Works wonderful too.
If I was looking for a scanner because it was to be used for something other than messing around, I would've bought a new one. Seeing one at a second hand store for 5 bucks is a good deal, I dont care who you are. |
