Firstly, I have searched high and low on this topic including cdosys and authentication. So far I have not been able to identify anyone with the same set up. Sure, there are lots of people having problems with smtp mail not getting out but it seems most of you are on Windows boxes.

I am running 3.4.05 of the forum on a Linux box with Chili!Soft ASP. All else appears to work apart from the email. The email configuration options are correct - besides, I only have CDONTS and Chili!Mail options on the dropdown anyway - and CDONTS produces this error anyway:

Microsoft VBScript runtime error '800a01b6'
Object doesn't support this property or method: 'MailFormat'
inc_mail.asp, line 99

...so I'm left with Chili!Mail. The hosts says that authentication is required so I have uncommented the lines in inc_mail.asp to this effect but still I get squat!

Is there something fundamental that I'm doing wrong?! I have tried pretty much every combination under the sun. The user details are correct because I have successfully tried to send email using the smpt server via Outlook Express (using different ISP but with authentication checked).

Any help would be massively appreciated!

I remember a similar problem a user was having a while back. At the time I searched Sun's site for any indication that Chilli Mail supported authentication and couldn't find any.

I think the only was you will be able to send mail through their server is if they change the config to allow your i.p. send mail without authentication.

Appreciate it. I have ended up configuring the forum settings for an alternative mailserver of mine. Not an ideal situation because I have to pay for the bandwidth on that. However, under the circumstances appears to be only thing I can do.
