(My apologies to others, but I would have liked to have posted as a reply to my original posting but I have been blocked from this - see below)

HuwR.

I am sorry to say that I find your answer curt and objectionable, and your locking the thread down - was just the last straw.

You are making implications that imply that I am not doing my research before posting. Before I posted I had done an immense amount of research on your forums, MS KB - and elsewhere. Including working out how to use the alternative search because your main search does not work for me.

I persevered on my own computers. I set up several trial installs of Snitz on two w2k boxes, both with MySQL and Access2000.

And just to make matters worse not only could I solve it but my colleague could not solve it.

I partly see why you closed the thread down - you must see this particular error interminably and find it a personal frustration to see it crop up again. But your "suggested solution" was completely off-track and abolutely no use. I had tried & retried that particular avenue several times and in several guises.

But I am not the kind of person who gives up.

The actual answer was the %Tmp% directory - as defined in Control-Panel, Advanced, Environment Variables, System Variables - TMP/TEMP. On my computer this was set to C:\WINNT\TEMP. That directory required NTFS WRITE permissions for IUSR_<computername>.

Why I am posting the answer after your curtness? I do not know! I put it down to you having a bad day and my being generous. And anyway, Snitz Forums are a most excellent web tool. Please try to be more patient with your posters in future!

I don't care how curt and objectionable you find it, we have a search facility for a reason, and you will find pretty much all the moderators and admins here would have locked your post and told you to use it.
