I'm brand-new to this, so I apologize for any obvious ignorance. As a forum admin, I want to be able to prevent unauthorized users from registering and/or viewing the Forums site at all. One solution is to put the link to the Forums behind a password wall, but then once people get in, they still have to register and create another ID and password to post. I guess what I'm asking is if I have control over who can register for the Forums site. I could only find allusions to this on other topics. |

If you turn on Restrict Registration (needs e-mail validation on) in E-mail Configuration, new members will not be able to activate their account until you've approved them.
If you turn on Require Registration in Main Forum Configuration as well then people will need to be logged in to access your forums.

Search is your friend “I was having a mildly paranoid day, mostly due to the fact that the mad priest lady from over the river had taken to nailing weasels to my front door again.” |

Thanks! This is exactly what I needed. One more quick question--is there a way to have an email sent to the administrator whenever someone registers and is waiting for approval, or does the admin always need to log in to the forum to find out if members are pending.
Thanks for your assistance-- |

Not in the base code but there are a couple of mods out there; can't think of them at this hour, though! Have a search of the mod forums or over at SnitzBitz, should be easy enough to find.
