The last computer I had where the HDD was making noise, the HDD crashed...

But this is a different noise than the last one was making... I just restarted my computer for the first time in about 2 months, and after it restarted, it started making the noise... no gradual build-up or anything, just BOOM there's noise where there shouldnt be...

Have you seen the commercial where the dude sarcasticly says "I'd like it for my computer to start making the sound of a yeti" (I think thats what he said anyway)... then starts making verbal sounds...

well, thats what it sounds like "bdddbdbdbbbdddbbdbdbbbbdbdddbbdbd"

And it has a wierd echo-like after-sound too... I've been thinking about getting a new hard disk (internal) anyway, but since I havnt heard this sound before, I was wondering what might cause it...

I find it wierd how it dosnt make a noise until I restart one day and now it sounds like a freakin helicopter...

I hope I find a solution before it crashes and I lose all kinds of data... Hopefully the data currently on it isnt corrupted so I can back it up....

Have you checked out your CPU fan.. Could be a build up of dust on it. But just to be safe, back up your data, get a copy of ghost and a new hard disk drive.

Cheers,

hard drive noises are never a good sign. I'd consider moving any data you wish to keep immediately. generally the only solution you'll have is replacing the drive. there is no magic software to fix this.

its the HDD.... I know that sound, if it was the fan it'd be consistant, and it only makes noise when its reading data, so its not the fan.

I'm going to get a power cord for my 120 gig tonight and backup my data.
