I suggested in the past that Snitz should come out with a php verison of the board and I recall many of you said just to use Invision Board. Well it seems that IPB is slowly withering to an early grave due to its betrayal to its loyal free community so i'm wondering if Snitz will also take the spot for #1 php board as well? Its defiantly a good time to take a tackle because people are searching for an alternative. If Snitz was to make a php version of this software i'd use it and know others would would be interested in using it too along with providing suggestions. |

This is now the best free PHP forum available, in my opinion:

I've tried it before but its not that appealing as Invision Board, because it lacks features and the skin is rather a nightmare. I have been looking for a solution recently and its coming to the point of having to buy a decent well featured PHP board. It was recently discovered a exploit in phpBB2 that allows a hacker to gain root access to the server. I haven't seen many exploits in a piece of software that allow to do unless i'm uninformed on it, but it could still have hidden exploits like the one discovered that could cause chaos for people who rent servers. |

They regularly fix the code, as Snitz does, and have you seen version 2 ?

The thing is, I donīt think Snitz will convert to PHP - doesnīt make any sense. Itīs like asking Microsoft to use Linux. |

Perhaps some PHP 'freak' is willing to take up this challenge, and is willing to create a PHP version of Snitz...but in that case it simply will not be Snitz... One could 'borrow' the look and feel, the functionality etc, but it still won't be Snitz. |

If you have a copy of IPB 1.3 your still free to use/install it. You just can't download for free anymore. |

I have read before that Matt isn't even allowing that to happen. He hasn't given a date for us to shut down, but eventally he will come knocking at our site via email to take down our forums we've worked hard to build. If someone was to take on the challenge of building a Snitz PHP verison i'd be more than happy to donate the resources necessary to construct it. |

I've read quite a few comments that seem to imply the contrary, the general gist being that basically your bound by the license of the version, and 1.3 was free, it's just "illegal" to download or distribute 1.3 now.
Thing is as somone above already pointed out, if Snitz was rewritten in PHP well it just wouldn't be Snitz anymore the whole premise behind the original version was as I recall that it was an ASP "learning experience" which would kinda be lost if it was PHP!.
There are still many free forums out there in ASP, .NET, PHP and Perl that are good substitutes. |

Kingkerry, you might try this forum: http://www.punbb.org/
They are kind of like Snitz, in that we both prefer to keep the base code as simple as possible and leave features like Privates Messages/Calendar/etc.. as add-ons.
They also have a fairly active modding community. |
