That's how I've been justifying this one.... "By participating in the community here, I'm sharpening my skills and getting more familiar with the software - thus making me a better programmer for the hospital."
Which is true, plus the added benifit of working with a great bunch of people! |

Subfolders in your PM inbox, completely unrecognizable forums, blazing performance, an 'away message' (why didn't I think of that! )perfect profile pages, man...the list goes on and on!
Btw ; who designed those smileys ? They're GREAT!!! Amazing job you've pulled there Shaggy!

Cheers, Marcel Keep an eye out for a return wink or message - you never know!
The smileys are the ones Mike designed for Snitz (plus a few others I've picked up over the years) with a couple of tweaks here and there (such as moving the eyes closer together). More to come when I have the time all of which will be based off the ones available here.

Man, this "to download and tweak list" just keeps growing! And I wouldn't have it any other way. |

Just now got to checking this out... and I've got to say wonderful! The real question is just how much genuine, original snitz code is left in that thing?
Almost forgot to add, its probably a good thing I didn't try to browse this at work! |

Are you implying Woo.ie is not safe for work?!
There's quite a bit of original Snitz code left in there, mainly in the functions of the various include files.

Not at all!
It just looked and felt so far from the base Snitz, I wondered how much was left. Doesn't do me much good to register though, as I'm here in the USA... ... anyway, love the work! I may have a few questions for you as I try to slowly and stedily grow Warsong Records. |

Ask away, my friend
The majority of changes were purely aesthetical, the code changes pretty much involved stripping out the things we didn't need and trimming down a few bits and pieces to suit our needs. The biggest overhaul was to the PM mod which was more or less rewritten from scratch.

Be careful what you ask for!
Incidentally, I've become a reference for one of the other departmental programmers. We're getting ready to create a brand new version of their department's web site. After hearing what she wanted to do, I suggested to take Snitz and modify it to our ends. Long story short, I said that for inspiration on what is possible to check out your site and marcel's.... well now she sends me an e-mail with this:quote: On the left I wanted something like this. Similar to this guys table on the left http://woo.ie/?aff=9
I thought you might want to know since imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
(Tracy, if you read this I meant only good things!) |

Did she mean the columnar layout or the actual menus themselves? Incidentally, if passing the link around to others, there's no need for the querystring, it's just a way for us to track referrals from these forums.

Hey Shaggy, what's the score with the affiliate ID's? Who gets the pocket money from the above link? The Shaggy Fund? |

At the moment, it's just tracking referrals from a number of different sites. When we start turbning a decent profit, we'll be setting up a proper affiliate scheme with referrers earning a percentage of upgrades by members they refer.

Somehow I think both... ... this is gonna be fun!
Actually, I think for the menus we're going to share a dynamic Flash menu like here and use it system-wide. |

I'd recommend against using things like Flash and javascript for important elements of your site, such as menus, as not everyone may be able to downlad Flash Player or turn javascript on in their browsers. Actually, I'd recommend against Flash as a whole, people are bored of it now and, unless it's something mindblowingly funky, will oftentimes will be irritated by it if it's used pointlessly.

Being that its on the company intranet we can garuntee that Flash will be installed. The problem is that there are a few other departments that take care of their own portions of the intranet. By using this animation it will turn the XML into a drop-down menu and the developers only need to modify the XML file - and not bother the main Admin. with updates.
When possible, I try to keep to simple, functional, and practical uses for flash. |
