I apologise for the n00bi-ness of this post. I did a search for relating topics but I couldn't find any.

We have Snitz 3.4.04 but are currently experiencing many difficulties with our web hosting company. We're already making plans to transfer to another hosting company, but I was just wondering how I go about transferring the forums (i.e. backup, configurations etc.). If someone could give me a concise guide I'd be most appreciative.

Thanks!

~ Mark

All the forum variables are stored in the database, so downloading your current database then uploading it to your new server would be enough if you're using Access. (uploading your forum files aswell of course)
If you're using MS/My SQL you'll need to convert the table data to text files (most management tools have this down as backup database or export data) from your current database then import the files to your new one.

Actually if you're using SQLServer at home, you simply use DTS to get the database locally, then push it up to the new server.

Jezmeister, this is simply not true. There are several options regarding this and I would assume text files as the last resort. Please be careful with the advice you give.

Thanks guys for your help! I'm using an Access database. Does this mean I'll have to reinstall the forums (i.e. download the zip and start from scratch) as I've been messing with the existing files that I backed up and I can't seem to get anything to work?

Again, apologies for the n00bie-ness...

Yeah, you probably should use a fresh set of files. In order to move all your forum's contents you just need to move your database (.mdb), of course, besides the forum files.

You should be able to download the access db and upload it to the new ftp space.

Thanks guys! Was hoping that I wouldn't have to re-install all the MODs again, but I guess it'll give me something to do this weekend!! :P
