Actually I said earlier it was rauter, everyone who I know says rauter and this one guy that I met says rooter.

I've always said rooter because of the explanation I read in an earlier topic (the travel thing). My dad used to say rauter until I told him to cut it out and say rooter like you're supposed to

I guess this is like the tomato / tamato thing isn't it ?

We are all just going to have to agree to pronounce the word differently.
