Version 3.4.04 on a Win2003 server at my web host.
For some unknown reason when I login as an administrator I am getting the login page repeatedly. If I catch it and click on the "click to continue" button there is a 50/50 chance that I will get to the admin menu. Sometimes clicking "Admin Options" does it.
I thought there might bea problem with cookies or cached pages so I dumped all of it so as to start with a clean slate. Still had the same problem.
I then downloaded the .05 upgrade and installed it. I had the same issues with getting the right page to display and had to click around in order to get the forum to finally update and get an acknowledgement thatthe upgrade was successful.
So .05 is installed now - I think - and I am still having the same issues. I login, I click on Admin Options, enter my admin user name and password, and there is a 50/50 shot that I will be taken back to the admin login screen and not to the admin menu.
This has only recenty become a problem.
Is this a known bug? Repairable, or do I need to reinstall from scratch?
I have temporarily shut down my Snitz board - I think - until I get a resolution.
I say "I think" because when I click on shut down, it took me back to the admin login page. I logged in yet again, and clicked to shut down the forum, and it took me back to the login page.
I back-paged to the last display of the shutdown page and clicked on REFRESH in my browser and it told me the board was shut down and not running.
I have tried 3 browsers I have on this system with the same issues.
In all I have cleared all caches manually and all history files.
I'm stumped. Three browsers doing the same thing suggests (to me) that its on the forum software end of things.

To me it suggests something on the server end. Do you have an URL to your forum? Can you create a temporary account, make it an admin account and email me the data? |

I'd like to but now I cannot seem to get access to register a new user (test account) and I cannot now access the Admin Options page via the forum link. It appears to be allwoing me to login but its not returning the necessary pages when links are clicked.
I traced to my domain and ran queries and all appears to be OK - no delays at any hops between us that might be suspect. I've tried on both a Windows and Mac system just to be sure.
It appears that I can get other pages tagged "asp" at my domain. Most are so that I can invoke a resident counter script embedded within pages I want a count on.
I'm beginning to wonder if its a server side issue that is not rendering ASP pages correctly? It seems that any page that "might" access the database is a problem.
I have no clue as to how to check the database for corruption.
All I can do is send an existing admin ID if that is helpful. I can always change the password or set a new one

Send ruirib a admin users name and password that you have in use now. He can be trusted and should be alot of help
Have you tried re-uploading the forum files? And if it's a access DB, have you tried uploading a backup DB? |

I will send the other fellow info to login. I can always dump that mod account for another.
I also pulled a trouble ticket with my web host just in case there is a problem on that end.
Its using MS ACCESS and the database has a .mdb file extension. Sorry if I am not versed in this area - I am not.

I have not backed up the DB yet. That may be a problem. Its a low-use message board and its only 1.45 MB in size. I only started it this past March.
I only uploaded the new .05 upgrade files, not all of them.
When we moved to the Win 2003 machine we lost CDONTS and had to switch to CDOSYS. I had to follow some fixes here in the forum to get the mail features to work in config.sys. Once that was corrected and I reset the path to the database it ran fine for the last month with no hitches. It only started acting up in the last 48 hrs when I went in to check on some pending subscriptions. I've had some people trying to gain access using false mail addresses (I have e-mail validation turned on) and have to delete the pendings periodically.
If its corrupted now its too late. I will start to back up after this.

It does look like a server issue to me. Your configuration was ok, I tried login, logout as admin and visit the admin pages several times and the problem manifested itself quite a few times, though some times everything worked ok. Have you talked to your host about this? Admin login is based on a session variable value, so this can be a session related issue, though you're never logged out of the forum. |

Thanks for the test.
The hosting company has a skeleton crew on weekends and all support is e-mail oriented. I have filed a trouble report with them. I will add your comments to the ticket in hopes that will serve to direct them to the problem.
I note that another person has filed a similar problem report thread not unlike mine but they seem to think this is cookie related. I have my browsers set to accept all cookies a this time just in case it wa sa cookie issue.
Thanks again.

Yes, this is usually cookie related. In my view, your problem is clearly different, since login is often done, even if you need to do it again when trying to access a different admin option, but you do manage to login, contrary to what happens with the most frequent situations. |

Update 11/15/04 at 8:25 AM EST USA (GMT-5)
My web host acknowledged an ongoing issue on the server and made appropriate adjustments. There was no additional intervention required on my part, such as needing to change/correct path to files, etc.
Thank you all for the attention!

I have exactly the same problem. Was your server Brinkster by any chance? |
