You forced the conversion into an image by using the tags, that has nothing to do with the URL parsing. There's no need to validate an image link or URL when it's posted using tags.

How is the forum supposed to know when you want a tag to be ignored? A [ignoreforumcode] tag maybe...
- Instead of thinking of what the base code should not do, I'd rather think of what it should be doing. In my opinion, it should automatically recognize valid (that is, fully qualified) URLs and turning them from plain text to html links. If there is a case where a certain string which is not a correct URL is being treated as such, IMHO it should be corrected. I personally don't care if you call it a bug, enhancement, improvement... I think it would make Snitz better and that is what I would care of. - Regarding how it should know whether you wanted to use [IMG] as a string or a tag, well, I think of this as a programmer. In any language or tool, there are certain words that are considered "restricted keywords", that are meaningful to the language and that, thus, cannot be used. I cannot declare a variable called "int" in C. In this case, it's the same. Users should be able to type any string they want to, except those that are "meaningful" to Snitz, that could be considered "language keywords", that is, tags.
If anyone is so unlucky to be called "[IMG] B. Smith" he could try to sign his posts post as John Doe
